Garmin Updates.
This could apply to Motoring and Techie sections.
I have been experiencing a struggle trying to download Garmin updates for my Nuvi 50 LM. Firefox will not allow this, here is the text of the message from FF whenever I try to download garmin updates: -
"The owner of download.garmin.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website."
I get the same reaction from Chrome. Apparently only Internet Explorer can be used to download garmin updates. I refuse to use IE as I know it is inherently unsafe. If other browsers are stopping garmin in the same way, there must be something wrong. I have contacted both Firefox Help and Garmin. FF have suggested several solutions, none of which work, but it is obviously not Firefox causing the problem. I have given Garmin the details above and informed them that they need to correctly configure their website. I bought my Nuvi 3 years ago, with Lifetime Free Updates. That looks good now, doesn't it?
If you have a garmin and you run Firefox or Chrome, please try updating and tell me about your experience.

Try and download Garmin Express from Garmin. With that, you don't need to use any browser, and use that to update your sat nav.Started my job at the bottom and liked it0

You're updating a satnav not running the Bank of England! Update the thing with IE then go back to Chrome/firefox, simples!
Why should I? I used FF for years because I experienced problems with IE. It is Garmin's responsibility to operate a well-configured website that will run within one of the most popular browsers. It is FF's responsibilty to inform me if I am accessing a site that may cause security problems. FF are doing their job, Garmin are not! Simples!
Pardigm, thank you, however this has already been suggested to me elsewhere. Trying to download Garmin Express gives the same result, whether using http:// or https://I think this job really needs

I only use Google Chrome - I've had no problem installing Garmin Express on several laptops.
I suspect that there is something else wrong with your settings perhaps.
Good luck.0 -
I mainly use Firefox, but some applications only seem to run on IE, so I have that as well. I have been using IE for many years and have never found it 'unsafe'. I am sure there would be a lot more publicity if it was.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

No problems whatsoever using FF. In fact I updated to the latest, ROI, U.K. and W. Europe map just a couple of days ago. Since then there's been nothing to update so I can't say what would happen at this very moment if I tried.
This is a nuvi 2699LMT-D and Garmin Express which replaced a nuvi 50LM and never experienced any FF update problems with that.0 -
My thanks to the last 3 posters, who addressed my request and answered it with useful advice.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
