This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.

After the deluge yesterday today looks bright and clear, though rain is still in the forecast.

After taking my Mum shopping yesterday I headed for home. My trip was broken to have a coffee and chat with Camelot - great idea and just what I needed. Now I'm the proud owner of a beautiful home-made shopping bag, complete with two ismall internal pockets and one external one. Many thanks.

The drive home was slow because of the awful rain and. When I arrived the first thing I did was set the wood burner into action. Then I went back out into the rain to fill up the bird feeders, think the birds were waiting in line as they swooped down almost immediately to munch away.

I retired to bed to watch Strictly with a glass of wine, such a treat. Now I'm still under the duvet but must get up. There's some paperwork which needs to be scanned and emailed out to the students.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Hi everyone, did you miss me:o:p.

We've been away in Italy at DS's wedding. It was a fantastic occasion - the villa was beautiful and huge, about 25 people stayed for 5 days, with another 8 off site. It was great because we really got to know their friends. The service was very moving (and outside which was a bonus because rain had been forecast) everyone played garden games (most of them made by DS and fiancee) and the food had to be seen to be believed. We had a late lunch which actually had been offered as an anti-pasto to the dinner. It's just as well they asked for it to be served early because no-one would hav been able to eat a thing. There was a table of cheeses - a huge gorgonzola, pecorino, parmesan, mozzarella (not like any mozzarella you'll taste on a pizza), salami's and sausages, a man slicing a leg of parma ham, a woman cooking instant scrambled eggs with ham and with truffles and pastries of sausage and mushroom and spinach and riccotta. Then the vening meal was three delicious courses followed by a buffet selection of about 10 desserts which they kept replenishing (and a cake). DSiL had to retire with food sweats for a while - he is notoriously greedy and looks like a long drink of water.

It was lovely to see a part of Italy we've never visited (umbria) and will definitely go back. Not least because it was a bit fraught with DH only getting out of hospital on Monday afternoon and we drove 3 solid days to get there. DH ended up at Pronto seccorso (A&E) a couple of days after the wedding because he was in pain and thought he'd shifted something dancing at the wedding.

Sorry for the long post but I'm still very excited about the wedding.

Morning :hello:

snoozer I'm glad the wedding went well, it sounds amazing! Hope DH is OK now x

After the M5 turned into a car park for a while, Scampi being sick in the car twice and a slooooow journey on the A30 (roadworks) we finally made it to St Ives at 2pm yesterday :D The cottage is tiny, I was expecting that. Glorified shed really :D But I wasn't expecting the boiler to be so weak that it sounds like it's going to stop making an effort at any moment, the kitchen to be so small that it's impossible to cook in (we'll be living off ready meals for most of the week), to have to wash a saucepan and the cutlery before using it (we weren't going to touch the frying pan, we nipped to Asda and bought a new one!) or the roof to spring a leak. The owner came straight over with a ladder, couldn't do much while it was raining so he's going to come back this morning. When he left, he left the gate open. I let Scampi out for a wee and he took himself off to the owner's house where he growled at his two dogs through the window. I was out there in the rain, shaking a treat bag and excitedly calling 'Scamps, let's go this way!' and walking off, hoping he'd follow. He did, good boy. We went for a walk where we came across quite a few people including two women with four dogs and there was no reaction to any of them. So far - fabulous dog, rubbish cottage.

I've been going through the house over the past couple of weeks, wondering what it is I actually want. This moved, that gone, etc. I've scribbled everything down and have bought the scraps of paper with me. I'm going to sort it all into order – easy, small, cheap jobs first and ending with the most difficult/awkward/expensive. Not that I plan on spending much, I just want some sort of order and immediate results will spur me on to do the rest.
Mr tru is looking very scared. lol

Morning everyone,

Dull and overcast here, we had some heavy rain in the night that woke me up and then of course I couldn't get back to sleep so feel like wet blanket this morning. It was my turn to get up and walk the girls, OH is still snoozing in bed lucky so and so.

I did get over to see Bill yesterday but as suspected it was too windy for clipping, however I trotted him up in the little school and he didn't look bad at all, just a little stiff? Must admit thought he was just having a good day but my farrier happened to be there as he is the partner of the lady who helps run the yard and he said how much better Billy was looking these days. Not sure if it's the supplement that have been giving him or the warm, dry weather but he has certainly improved so am going to try to build his strength up with some in-hand walking and then might even have a little sit on as well :j my expectations are low but you never know. He is still a relatively young horse at 14 and with more strength to his muscles he may be able to cope with light work.
Will get over to see Mum this afternoon, DB and SIL went yesterday & said she was in relatively good spirits, nothing much happening in the way of ward move as it's the weekend.

Sounds a perfect day to me Gers
The wedding sounds fantastic Snoozer am so glad your OH got to go.
Little Tilly is often sick in the car Tru much to Rosie's disgust, sorry but I did giggle at the mental image of your lists, that is so something I would do :)

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
• Morning All

Dry here this morning after yesterday's biblical rain, it didn't stop all day. The wind seems to have subsided too.

Had a lovely catch up with Gers, glad you got home safely - not a good day to be driving.
tru - you would have been better off with a caravan! Well done to Scampi.
You sound to have had a wonderful time snoozer, so pleased you were able to go and enjoy yourselves.

I've got a load in the WM, I'll risk putting it out in a while as it is still breezy. Going to meet DD later, we were going for lunch but I'll take something over and we can eat at hers, saves the pennies!

Cleaned the living room and moved everything round, I have an antique table left to me by an Aunt years ago that doesn't really look right wherever I put it but it's too big to go in the loft. Not really sure what to do with it.

Have a lovely Sunday. Take care. XX
• Good morning all. thank you Gers for starting us off.

We are home after a wonderful week in Norfolk. The cottage was beautiful, very tastefully furnished with everything you could possibly need. The weather was good and Himself did so well it was just what we both needed. It was a goal he set himself when he was so ill and he achieved it. Needless to say neither of us wanted to come home but all good things come to an end.

Snoozer the wedding sounds wonderful I hope DH has recovered because that was a long journey. Italy is one of our favourite countries and the people are just lovely and the fooooood, say no more.

The cat is sulking at the moment because we left her. She was with DGD here at home, but she is making us suffer , very few cuddles allowed :):)

We need to go and do a shop later and Sainsbugs sent me some vouchers whilst we were away so will go there. I have quite a lot of food stuffs in store but I think I need to stock up on a few essentials.

Have a good day all

Glad the wedding went well Snoozer and that Candlelight had a good break, sorry your cottage isn't good Tru.
I had a lazy start to the day, a cuppa in bed, leisurely shower and some online browsing. I'm looking for a small wireless printer, my kids will buy me it for my birthday, but most of them are huge.
Today will be spent mainly pottering, a bit of housework, a bit of crochet etc.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

• Good Morning chums and although its dry and warm its a little cloudy at the moment ,but no rain forecast.
Good night last night at the charity quiz, even though we came forth there were lots of chats and laughter.I made some nibbly bits to take with me which went down well with everyone and the night raised £304 for the orphanage in India, to go with the over £600 odd from the coffee and cake morning brings the totals up to just under £1000 which is really good and will find a good home for the young girls who have been rescued from the streets.

Sunday morning has whizzed around again and so its menu planning for the week, and veg prep which I usually peel my spuds, carrots etc for the week and put in the fridge in water ,saves lots of time if I get home late from Dds, (I look after three of her sons after school until one of them get home between 6-7 pm at night)

Last night I put a piece of gammon in the slow cooker overnight (another find from the freezer dive :)) and its cooked beautifully this morning.I have my oldest friend coming for lunch from Dartford tomorrow so I thought we can e a nice ham salad and this afternoon I shall make a creme caramel to go in the fridge for pudding.
Just got to swish around the kitchen this morning and give the sitting room a quick hoover and I'm done for the day.

Dinner at DDs later today ,they eat in the evening so I will have a cheese omelette for lunch I think.

I did put a line of washing out yesterday and looking out of the window it looks as though its had a good blow and is dry so I may iron the bits that need to be done while listening to the Archers this morning.

I started on another charity blanket yesterday using up some odds and ends by striping them with white and cream as I have a fair bit of that in my wool stash, managed to get three squares done yesterday which i was pleased with.
Right time to get the coffee percolator on as I need a few shots of caffeine

Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday chums

Cheers JackieO xx
• Mornin' lovelies - thank you Gers for making a start line :)

Hugs and positivity for those that need them - that goes double for anyone in a dark place - keep on going xx

Love everyone's stories of seeing a funny side to a meh situation.

Snoozer - a TABLE OF CHEESE mmmmmmmmm - your Umbria adventures sound fab

Tru - we had a similar experience in the Caravan from Hell in Wales - booked a week - lasted 24 hours - it was worth the money to come home. If I wanted to rough it in a tent, I would have taken my own - and it would have been 100.000% cleaner lol. Glad you had better luck candlelight - your stay sounded like bliss.

In boring chore mode this morning - busy week to come and I really want to keep on top of it. Have fun with your wood burners (I have so much envy) folks - and good luck with the printer search Hester!

Winding up my timer (15mins activity/15 mins rest - if I don't pace there is trouble in fatigueland) - putting a brew on if anyone wants one ?
