CCJ question

I have applied for a job. And they told me they us experian to do employment screening. Seeing as they use experian I am assuming they will credit check me. (The job has nothing to do with finance etc) I know I have an active ccj of £1100 on my file from last year which I have just found out about. If I start paying that off will it make a difference and will the checks show that I'm paying it off? And if I pay some of it before the checks are carried out does the report show the original amount or the amount I have left to pay? Thanks in advance x

What kind of job is it as it might give a clue what they would be looking for ?
Were you asked on the application if you had any CCJ's ?0 -
It is an administration position for a healthcare company and from what I am aware there is no money handling involved. There was no questions about it on the application, but it did say there will be a particular screening process (bpss) which i searched and it was just the basic disclosure, employment and reference checks. However after the interviews I was told experian will carry out the employment checks. And because it's experian I am now worried that they will check my credit file.0

Although there may not be any money handling involved, it sounds like there could be handling of sensitive data which is why they may be carrying out these checks.
The employer cannot look at your credit file, but Experian (or indeed other providers) would be able to give the any publically available data, ie CCJs. They may well then ask you for more information about this and, for example, if it is in a payment plan.
You could specifically ask if they do financial checks and disclose the CCJ to them up front so it doesn't come as a surprise.0 -

Hi,
I'm no expert and difficult to know what they doing checks for but they are most likely doing a credit check to confirm your I.D.....(as credit files show electoral register, date of birth, where you live etc)
If its not banking or director of a company type position, I would be surprised if the debt on your credit file is an issue.0 -
Hi Twinklez,
We have an Employment screening team which is separate to our credit reports divsion. These checks can check for a host of different things starting at basic criminal record and identity checks
If you'd like to see what the team does and also see sample reports you can do so here - http://www.experian.co.uk/background-checking/pre-employment-screening.html

People like Bazzy B are not actually accurate as governmnent based employers such as Police, military, security services etc if you need a certain level security clearance or above then you agree to Experian giving them access to your whole credit file, not just publically accessible information.
I don't know where you stand in health care but may be worth speaking to the vetting department of your new employer and find out exactly what they will see.
Either way a CCJ is publically accessible information so they be able to find that easily with or without your consent as can anybody else. I'd just go for 100% honesty as if they find anything you haven't declared, it's likely to be bye bye job before it even starts as they will think you are a dishonest person.
Good luck0 -
Experian Representative above is hoping you will buy a copy of your pre screening report for £54.99 when actually your employer may be able to get the whole report anyway...0
