Thanking posters - do we all do it???

Options
I'm just curious to know whether everyone 'thanks' the original poster for posting the competition if they enter it?

I noticed that some are posting that they have won a particular post, but they are not listed as thanking the original poster.

I thank the poster if I enter the competition and all the contributors if they have confirmed/given an answer or useful information.

I know people don't have to thank them, just wondered what everyone thought......

I thank the poster and contributers of a post whether I enter the comp or not - if the post caught my attention then I think the poster deserves a thanks even if I don't wish to enter the comp. :)

I don't thank spammers or naughty nellies who self promote though! :(
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
  • I always do as they could be selfish and keep all comps to themselves, they are very kind posting x

I thank the poster of every comp I click on, whether I end up entering it or not. I actually get quite aggrieved at the fact that the number of thanks is never even close to the number of views but I imagine that is because most people only thank on the ones they enter.

I generally only look at a competition if I intend to enter it or think it doesn't look right, I thank those I enter, posts that are helpful (not necessarily to me), entertaining ones etc

Views include the same person looking more than once.
You have to be logged into thank - not everyone who uses the forum has an account or is logged in.
The green tick, unlike thanks, shows on the index so people do not need to thank to keep track of what they have done.
    People don't bother/choose not to.

    The short answer is no.

and you have answered you own question

I always thank on ones I open up to enter.

It's polite, the op didn't have to share the comp. Wish people would just press it!

Also thank helpful posters, or amusing!

It's generous of people to post competitions, and I always thank the poster and contributors if I enter a competition.
  • I thank every post I open even if I don't enter, answers, helpful Qs, the dupe spotting ones, requesting merge...etc. I don't thank newbies silly Qs.

To thank or not to thank that is the question. I must admit I do not thank every post and for some competitions if I have already entered it through another route I would not open it just to thank the poster. I felt bad I wasn't thanking some posters for twitter comps as I never enter those just skip them. There are some posters I would not thank if the life of my newt depended on it as I know they are not worthy of tea with Martin.

I pretty much do the same as nikanika0 above. Although on ones I don't enter I occasionally absentmindedly click x without hitting 'thanks' .
