Mini oven on extension lead?

Hi
Pending kitchen renovation I'll be using a 1000w countertop mini oven with two hotplates on top. But I just realised that to plug it in I would need to site it below some wall cupboards.
I suppose I could locate it elsewhere at a push. I could also put it on the one bit of worksurface that doesn't have a wall cupboard over. But the nearest wall socket is too far away.
Would it be safe to use a 13 amp single gang extension lead?

  • If it's a good quality one, yes.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Quite safe if you take sensible and mostly obvious precautions.

Make sure that the extension lead is fully unwound and isn't partly coiled as that can cause overheating in the coiled cable.

Make sure water from taps or from cooking splashes doesn't get near the socket or cable.

Make sure other users, especially children, are very careful not to pull on or trip over the cable and risk a hot oven and contents falling on them or on the floor.

Don't overload the extension cable with other devices such as kettles.

Ensure that the heat from the oven cannot scorch or set fire to cupboards or anything else in the kitchen.

Good luck with the kitchen renovation. Our new kitchen will be installed next month so we will be cooking on a camping stove in the garage for a few weeks.
  • 1000w is just over 4amp so 13 amp ext is fine.

Thanks everyone. I will go ahead and use it then.
Getting any work done in my part of Cumbria is a nightmare. I've never known anything like it. The trades are all booked all the time with many working well into retirement. Just getting someone to look at your job is a major hurdle. I've even had them say 'Can't you find anyone else?'.
Next difficulty is following through with an actual quote/estimate. Next one is actually getting them to the job.
I have got to the stage of being pathetically grateful if I leave a message for someone and they even get back to me :(
I have given up on ordering units and getting in individual trades ie plumber, electrician, fitter...It's going to have to be an all in one job. More expensive but less likely to involve a nervous breakdown!

    That!

Better than having it under a cupboard.

(Make sure the cable isn't in contact with hot bits...)
