adr0ck - If all new builds incorporated these features they would not cost £30K. Instead of only being available at specialist outlets, they would become standard and available at your local builder's merchants. Mass production always brings costs down once initial investment has been recouped.
And the "2016 Commitmant" is an "aim", but the communities.gov.uk website states -The '2016 Commitment' is a statement of intent by the signatory parties and is not in any sense legally binding upon them."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
A factor that is often ignored in the laudable quest for a zero carbon home is the ongoing cost of maintenance and repairs.
Solar and wind systems have mechanical and electronic components that will require maintenance, repair and eventual replacement.
Even Solar arrays located mainly on the roof of a house will require regular cleaning to remove grime and bird droppings. I suspect many of us will not be happy to regularly clamber onto our roof with bucket and sponge. Given the money window cleaners want around here I suspect that service alone will make a big dent in savings.0 -

yes the prices will come down
but not by much
theres too much to put in
even with economies of scale its still going to cost circa £20K extra to build a zero carbon home over a home built today0 -
