Office Chair on Carpet - Alternatives?

Are there any alternatives to rolling around an office type chair on some carpet?
Out study is having some cheap carpet put in but we don't want to distroy it by having a wheely chair.

Are there any alternatives, or should we just consider a normal, non-wheel chair?

I work mainly from home and have an office with a nice comfy chair on wheels... they destroy carpets, even the most hardwearing ones, in a matter of time. Went to wood flooring which works very well.

As for normal chairs, it depends on how much you use them - occasional use might be fine but any more and they will be uncomfortable, and still destroy the carpet over time.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.
  • Get a decent protective floor mat designed to go on carpet (they normally have small spikes on the bottom to stop the mat from sliding around). A decent one will cost about £30-40.
  • Depends on the insulation under the floor. If you've enough under the floorboards, plain wood & wheels are fine.

If on the other hand you have unauthorised ventilation between the floorboards, carpet all the way, a protective mat to maintain the carpet & a fun rug to conceal the usually less than aesthetically delightful mat.

(Colleague has a fleet of rugs from IKEA when rich & B&M when not, and rings changes to suit mood, client, project etc. It works for her.)

Yes, I've used one of those for years. All office equipment places stock (or can get) them.
  • Thanks.

I'll look into the floor mat, although it might not look the best. But then it'll be hidden a lot of the time.

I've got a wheelie office type chair here in thr lounge, and there's carpet. But there's no sign of wear, and i've been using it for probably about 6/7yrs.

They are transparent, so the colour of the carpet shows through.

    Carpet tiles!

Just fitted some to my office and its great... should last a bit longer than normal carpet.

I got mine from B&Q, but I dare say you could get more hard wearing ones if you opted to spend a little more and get one which is designed for commercial use.
