Amtico Flooring - Insurance Query

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help, I live in an apartment and have amtico flooring, the flooring has been accidently damaged (oh dropped a vase while moving a furniture).
The damage is right in the middle of the room so is a bit of an eyesore as it is a dark wood effect. I contacted my contents insurer (Halifax) and they agreed to cover the damage as I have accidental cover. They sent out an assessor who agreed was covered but he couldn't price it up as he was not an amtico specialist, we were asked to get our own quotes.
Following the third party specialists visit we contacted our insurers with the quote to be told contents insurance does not cover amitco flooring due to the way it is fitted and I have to claim through my buildings insurance....please could someone tell me if this is correct? As I live in an apartment the managing agents hold the buildings insurance so I don't imagine this would cover accidental damage so does this mean I am not covered? I have emailed the managing agent but have not heard back yet.
I do not see how they can accept a claim and then refuse.
Any advice would be appreciated?
Thanks

Normally carpets would be covered under contents and fitted wooden flooring under buildings. It's not logical, but it's industry standard.
IRO them accepting the claim and then refusing, sending an assessor round doesn't constitute acceptance unfortunately. I can see how it looks; perhaps the insurer could have picked this up at first notification stage (assuming you told them then it was Amtico flooring and assuming the adviser knew what this was). I'm not saying they didn't make a mistake, but I agree it's not a contents item and they were correct to decline this.
Wait until you hear back from the managing agents, as they will know what cover is in place and what is excluded.0 -
Surely it only needs the one damaged piece replacing?
When we had ours fitted the installer said individual "planks" can be lifted and replaced if damaged.Hardly seems worth an insurance claim.0 -
Thanks for your replies, I would have been happy to repair however the colour has been discontinued therefore unable to find an exact match for replacement piece.
Will wait and see what the managing agent says0
