Ring Valuation - cost and who to carry it out

I have inherited a ring that I want to get valued for insurance purposes. Does it matter who does this? I know there is the Institute of Registered Valuers and the Association of Independent Jewellery Valuers, but should you get a valuation from a jeweller on one of these lists? I went to an independent jeweller near me and he isn't on these lists - does that matter?
He also said it was £20 flat fee plus 2% of the ring valuation + VAT - does this sound reasonable?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

Unless your HH policy specifically says it needs to be valued by a certain someone; any reputable jeweller is justifiable for use.
Regarding cost; hopefully someone else can steer you. Have you looked online for comparative prices?0 -
There are a few companies that offer this service and prices can vary as there is no body that regulates fees in the industry.
If your insurers are fine with a jewellers valuation, then your local should be fine.
I've used IGR in London, they charged about £70 for a ring valuation which came with a photo.
Hope this helps.0
