Declined descion in principle with Virgin

I recently completed an online DIP through Virgin and was declined. I spoke to them and they wouldn't give much detail but referred me to speak to a financial advisor or broker. I feel so disheartened by it all now. Anyone had the same and then went on to get one and a mortgage approval?

I also would like to know if it's best to go through a broker?

Thanks

I have been in a similar situation. I got declined a mortgage through a Lender. Then decided to go speak to the Broker. The Broker then submitted an application for me to the same Lender and i got approved. I would recommend speaking to a good broker! Do not get disheartened by it.

  • Thank you for the response. Out of interest did you use a broker affiliated with an estate agent or independent?

No it was an independent one. They are called London and Country. Some Estate Agents use them but Martin Lewis also recommends them highly.

  • Have you checked all three credit reference agencies? I believe we were turned down a couple of months ago due to 2 of the 3 agencies holding incorrect information on my girlfriend. One of them didn't have any information for her, they basically said she didn't exist...
  • My credit file and husbands are up to date. I wondered if I didn't complete it correctly...

Did they not give even a clue about the reason for the decline? It could have been something on your credit file, it could have been that you didn't meet affordability requirements or it could have been another reason entirely.

When you say that your credit files are up to date, what do you mean by that? Have you checked all 3 to make sure that there is no adverse data, no late payments, no defaults? Are you registered and showing on the electoral roll?
    :p
  • Just spoke to L&C and was extremely pleased with the service!
  • We are both on the Electoral Register and never missed any payments. Only checked on ExperIan though. After speaking to L&C I think we just didn't meet Virgins criteria. Thanks
