I personally don't feel that anyone is in the wrong here, whether a pricing error as been made by boots or be it the price is correct and boots are aware of it. If there was an error, I'm sure that someone in the company would have brought it to the attention of their bosses by now and the correction been applied.
As such, I can only assume that the price is correct. And why should consumers not take avantage of this.
However I cannot condone anyone that returns a product and receives a larger refund than they have paid, that it totally inappropriate IMO, and not something I would consider a true MSE'er to do.Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

I purchased 3 toothbrushes for christmas presents, i then 2 days later visited our boots on the retail park, where they had better oral b toothbrushes. I decided to purchase these as blue ones look better as presents than green/purple glitter ones. I knew as i was purchasing the 2nd lot that i was going to return the original 3. Unlike people on this board who have mentioned 'returning 1 brush for a £9.99 refund' also unlike people who have STOCKED up on these toothbrushes, little me gift sets and have loads of cucumber products in their spare rooms. Going from Boots to different Boots to get this offer so as not to make the sales assistants aware that they are making money from Boots.
Why are people going to different Boots to buy loads of little me gift sets, why cause Boots are paying you to take them away. Is that not taking advantage. Then your buying toothbrushes again why? because it is a great deal. Your looking for magazines that are shrinked wrapped why? cause it gives you a extra 10% of not satisfied with getting a bargain looking for more.
I did not purchase these products to gain free points, i purchased 3 because i want 2 for christmas presents, and because they were a bargain i decided to do this. I did NOT return them for 'extra money refund' and i was not bothered when i was asked for my advantage card for points to be deducted. Which some people on this board seem to ask this question, why? are they trying to keep there points after returning a product.
I was handed to much money back by a cashier, i did like most people would do, just take the money and walk away. how many of us have done this, more people than not.
I am no worse than other people who scourer the messages boards to 'make money'
but i have now made a decission that whenever i see a pricing error, i will let my honesty win. I will CONTACT the company in question and point out that a error has been made and i will inform that people are making money out of their mistakes.
Here are a few quotes of people on this topic.
I bought 1 x £14.99 set and 2 x £9.99 sets the other day but the total to pay was £12.48 (with the 500 extra points). I was a bit "put out" by this so I got my hubby to take them back yesterday as he works near a big Boots.
When I checked the refund receipt last night they'd credited our account wtih £24.98 (1 x £14.99 and 1 x £9.99 as on 3 for 2). The assistant also asked my hubby for his Advantage Card but when he said he didn't have one she said "oh never mind".
going shelf clearing tomorrow
Hate to say this but if you'd put them through as two seperate transactions, you would have got two lots of 500 points for spending £25 on baby care
Should I email Boots for a whinge and get some free points added?
Till lady followed me to the shelf to check the prices and whispered that I got a fantastic deal paying only £6.48 and getting 500 points and should run away quietly. I whispered back "I'll just get some more and then run away" .
And anyway, it felt rather good again, as I wandered out of Boots, laden with goodies, knowing they'd paid me to take them.
Wasn't allowed to buy a gift card with my points though - must try to find a teenager on the tills!
Just a thought, if you took back some gift sets for a refund but instead of taking back 3 @ £14.99 you took back 2 @ £14.99 & 1 at £9.99 for example, what would the till do?
After all, you had to buy 3 items at the same value in order to get the extra reductions in addition to the 3 for 2 otherwise you literally got 3 for 2 & nothing else extra. I'm now wondering if the till would automatically refund £29.98 for the most expensive 2 out of the 3 for 2 offer & issue no refund for the cheapest as is normally the case on 3 for 2 refunds. Havent been brave enough to try this yet, but am tempted ( would have to conveniently forget my boots card though, lol!)
Not sure i'd have the nerve to try this myself. It would be too embarrasing with the reciept being for so little or would you take it back without the reciept?
It really does depend on who does your refund. E.g. the Boots in town only has one person who does refunds and she scours the reciept to ensure your refund means that Boots get back what they gave you. I returned something once which was on the same receipt as a 500 point bonus for £25 baby spend...she queried the extra points with me as to whether they were bought during triple points and why I'd been awarded them. I'm not grumpy about it though as I think she's doing her job properly.
Just an extra thought, when people use extra points codes given out on this web site and take advantage of boots frequent pricing errors (myself included) then I don't think many of us could claim to have a clear conscience, & come to think about it, it's probably not very honest either
I'm so glad that there are loads of people who are as honest as i am, (don't make me laugh) out there. Not only doing Boots out of cash, but using money off cupons to purchase products from stores without buying the product. Getting carried away with Argos sales, phew how many pages was this topic.
I may use the name Saint, but i'm not one. I like a bargain and have used Boots to get a few, but i don't have a spare room full of products i'm never gonna use, and not a advantage card full of points.
Oh and by the way i'm a woman.0 -

"Should I email Boots for a whinge and get some free points added?"
I wrote that because I should have received two skin care vouchers on two separate occasions. I had wanted the vouchers so had spent the required amount of money to receive them..only to be told at the till that there was none left. I could have cancelled the transactions, but I needed the products.
I think Boots should quite rightly compensate me for it as I could have easily taken my business to Superdrug or any supermarket. I would imagine the easiest way for them to do that is by offering points.
Just my opinion tho

Had some bad luck today
Picked up 3 sets (1x Aroma Bear 1 x Pamper Me 1 x Bedtime.) and although they were all half price the till didn't multisave. It came up £21.98! One was £7.00(?) and the other 2 were £7.49. I got a refund on the £7.00 but I still paid £15 for the 3 (I also got 500 points and a grooming voucher) Still a bargain but I'm taking them back as I know I won't use them and becuase of that its not very savvy.

will you be handing your grooming voucher back?0

Well I've spent it but if they ask for the items back then they can gladly have them as its only 2 mini FCUK toiletries. Didn't need them anyway, just wanted to use the free voucher."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Saint_Chris .... Firstly I sincerely apologize for assuming you were male
I was merely trying to point out that if loads of people took advantage of what happened to you that they MAY leave themselves open to a Boots backlash if it could be proven that people were purchasing items with the sole intent of gaining £20 profit each time ( Boots have the technology to show EVERY transaction you make ) ..... and I have already stated that I in NO WAY thought you did ANYTHING to gain rewards dishonestly
However I dont understand now WHY you are now going to CONTACT a company when you spot a pricing error informing them people are making money out of their mistakes .. " i will let my honesty win " you were quite happy at the time to walk away and say nothing with the £20 ( which you were perfectly entitled to do ) the mistake WAS NOT YOURS ... What has changed for you to take this view !
As to all the quotes you have listed to the way people shop I would say people do what they are comfortable with personally .... No-one loves a bargin and USES coupons, vouchers ect .....more than myself0 -
Hi Saint_Chris, I hope you don't feel like people are ganging up on you, I believe you were totally right to take the cash and i'm sure most of use on here would. I hate it when threads turn into slanging matches against someones comment or opinion and it is especially hard when you can't tell someones tone from what they have written. As it says at the top of the page Please Be Nice to all Money Savers! We all have different opinions on the matter clearly, thats just the way life is.0

chris returned the toothbrushes for a legitimate reason, not specifically to make money, that's fair enough. i'm not sure if the till staff could over-ride the amount refunded anyhow even if chris had pointed out that they'd over-refunded. the staff can only do what the till allows them to do52% tight0
