Tesco, restrictions after undelivered mail

Options
If like my father you get an email from Tesco Bank advising "Mail has been returned to us undelivered regarding your savings account. We will apply restrictions to your account if we receive additional undelivered mail." What are such restrictions likely to be? As noted on a recent thread on here they don't do email exchange with customers.

Is the address correct with Tesco ?
  • He says he thinks Tesco only have his old address but they have no reason to write anyway, it's just a savings account he rarely accesses.
    What could restrictions mean?

I'd be tackling the issue if it were me rather than questioning the (potential) affect.

i.e. finding out for sure what address they currently had and then updating it if necessary.

And repeat for any other institutions that need to hold their customers address irrespective of if they are written to.
  • Sound like a phishing email.

The restrictions will be that you won't be able to withdraw money until you call/write and update the address

I would give them a call and ask if they have sent the letter, though if the address he thinks isn't the one on file he will fail the security checks and they won't speak to him.

Delete the email and go to internet banking via your browser - don't click any links in the email. Hopefully the details can be checked/updated there, though I've never tried.
  • Thanks for the replies, I also thought phishing email til I saw it (Tesco's email) was addressed to him by name properly. My father is old, does Tesco bank have physical branches where you can speak to someone face to face?

you could try the fish counter!

I've just checked and you can check/change your address online. I have to assume as its a Tesco account it was opened online with online access by your father or someone on his behalf.
just log in or begin the "forgotten login details" process if no login details are known.
  • His old PC is caput and that is the one he used originally when opening the account (helped by the family obviously). He doesn't use a mobile so we don't know how he can (get a one off code and) access his account (in order to sort out the address update issue) other than visiting the fish counter as you suggest, pfpf - haha.

Write a letter to Tesco explaining the problem?
