My student card is the same (free one issued direct from the uni, not an NUS one), they issued it for a full year and not just the academic year. There must be a reason Universities do this and therefore, I feel entitled to continue using it until it expires. After all- I completed my studies and paid a handsome privilege to do so! Perhaps they rightly figure, that you may not immediately be in full employment or that you don't instantly become rich upon graduation. I don't see the problem personally- I rarely use it anyway and it's only likely to give you 10% off- peanuts to the retailer.

  • There are so many different discount schemes these days that I really wouldn't feel guilty - Health Service Discounts, Group On, Boundless etc. I'm sure the retailers sign up to these schemes, and accept vouchers from Nectar and Tesco Clubcard etc, as well as running their own loyalty schemes, on the basis that they'd rather have your business and give you a 10% discount than you go somewhere else entirely.
  • It's not moral to pretend to be a student when your in full time work. But tell the retailer / restaurant you've finished your studies but still have a card and ask if they'll give you the discount. I think at least 90% would give you it, and you've not cheated them. I bet the staff won't even care.
  • Wrong to say they should use it as they are not a student and therefore should not be getting a student discount anymore despite the card having no expiry date, Yet again the take, take take nature of people in this day and age is just beyond me.

It is always about gaining things at an advantage and free where they should not apply.

Absolute nonsense. If you want to be picky some store say 'with a valid NUS Card' if you have one why shouldn't you get the discount?

Also after years on years of property boom, great pensions which were not actually affordable for companies (I don't remember many staff refusing them for being too generous) this is rather a pathetic attitude about 'people in this day and age'.
