Fixed term contracts can be terminated (with notice) before the initial end date. After all, you would want to be able to resign if you found another job you really, really wanted which paid ten times as much! So both parties to the contract will have the right to give notice to the other.
However, if you are fitting in now, you do have an advantage. The employer may also prefer to let you continue in the post as you could be less expensive than someone for whom they are paying pension contributions. (In Universities it can be a high percentage of pay for the employer and perhaps you are not now in the pension scheme as you are on a fixed term contract).0 -

I like my job though and I don't see I want to leave within my yearly contract. I would like to move sideways a bit and take on some more duties and training though to build my experience(but knowing the job I have now in secure is security I would like never the less). But you are right I am still very cheap, no pension, only on lowest part of pay grade.:beer:0 -
I think I should have all the skills and more to get the job if it comes up.:beer:0

My advice is never to assume anything! I was temping to cover the period it took to advertise and employ a permanent member of staff and applied for the post I was doing. I got to interview but was unsuccessful even though I had been doing the job for a month. I was first reserve however and subsequently got offered the job when the person in first place dropped out.
Am not going there now as had the offer withdrawn but that is in another thread on this board!
Al you can do is your best and get on with as many people as you can. Show that you are interested and enthusiastic about your job and you will stand as good a chance of any when the job is advertised."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
The obvious place to start would be to ask your line manager and HR department. Put down the internet, go and talk to real people! :rolleyes:0
