Sky problems

Hi
Thanks for offering to help me with Sky this morning following my tweet....:D

I've emailed a complaint to the CEO of Sky, Jeremy Darroch but had no acknowledgement.

Two problems with Sky....First of all when my partner and I separated last October we both spoke to Sky and it was accepted that I could take over the direct debit using my bank details with a change of package and my email address would be the one they used.
They wouldn't put my name on the account, they said the only way they could do that would be to cut off everything - landline broadband and TV for two weeks. That was totally unacceptable to me so I accepted that my ex partner's name would have to stay on it despite me paying the bill.....

Problem two......I recently noticed my bill had jumped up from £54 odd to £85 odd without me changing anything.
All I have is Skyplus multiroom, a basic TV package so I can continue to use the pause, fast forward, rewind facility and a landline with anytime calls.
I think the new charge is exorbitant considering I'm not on sports, movies etc and only want freeview basically plus the bits described above.
I rang up last week and the nice lady offered to rename the TV bit back to 'originals' from 'box sets' which she said would save me £18 a month.
I still didn't think that was enough but reluctantly accepted it.
Then she said......'You'll have to get the account holder to speak to us before we can change anything though......'!!!!

'Excuse me? I AM the account holder, we went all through this with you last year and you accepted I am the account holder even though it had to be left in his name otherwise it meant cutting me off for two weeks'.

'Yes I know but due to data protection we have to speak to the person whose name is on the account before we can make any changes'..........!!!:mad::mad:

Oh really? Sky are happy taking my money, have no problem with the direct debit being in my name, email being in my name, electoral roll showing I've lived her since 1983 and showing my ex partner no longer lives here but I've got to go and find him somehow for permission to make changes to my Sky package?
What are you on Sky?? Not only charging me far too much for a very basic package but refusing to alter it using weasel words.

Couples co-habit and separate all the time, there must be many many people in the same situation as me all being treated appallingly by Sky when this situation develops.
Humiliating and degrading.

I don't want to be left with no TV, phone or broadband but I don't want Sky to be able to keep debiting me SKY high sums for precious little. I can't and won't ask my ex partner for permission to change things.

Any advice very welcome, thankyou. :)

Seriously, totally your fault, because you couldn't cope without service for a short while in so that you could have everything in your name.
Do the thing properly, as you should have done in the first place.
Might sound harsh, but no point in !!!!! footing around.
In the meantime, since you already know all of the passwords on the account, get a MAN to make the call for you. It's not as if they have voice recognition software and his voice print on a database.
  • Yes you are harsh. Two weeks without internet tv and phone is a huge inconvenience plus the overcharging.

Doesn't seem like overcharging to me. Probably an offer that has come to an end and you are now paying standard price. Not Sky's fault in that case.

I don't understand why you didn't cancel it when your ex moved out. Especially as you say 'I can't and I won't' talk to him. I wouldn't want someone that I felt that way about having free reign over my tv/phone/bb.

Take the simple option. Get it cancelled and open an account in your name. Problem solved then. 2 weeks isn't a huge amount of time in the grand scheme of things.

Oh, and visit the Sky haggling thread. Nobody should EVER pay the standard Sky rate.

    Good luck.

It was a bit silly not to change over the account if you "can't and won't speak to him". Two weeks loss of service compared with having an account he could cancel on a whim at anytime , time it when you go on holiday, job done if you really can't handle not having broadband for a short period (and presumably no access to 4g either. )

Complaining Sky won't breech data protection laws because you won't speak to your ex is not terribly mature .lts hardly their fault you can't bear to not get onto Facebook for a fortnight.
