Think Pride and Prejudice for where I'd like to time travel to. Would it have been early 1800's? I would love to wear a long dress and go to a ball and perhaps be asked to dance by Mr Darcy0

It was known as "lump sugar" - I have a recipe book from the '60 and they are still referring to "lump" sugar even in there! (Sounds archaic now though LOL) Did you watch Pioneer House last Sunday on C4? (It still has another 5 weeks to run) ... they had lump sugar as part of their provisions. (Of course, I'm a romantic, so I envisaged it sparkling temptingly in the candle light)

Thanks Queenie, I didn't know that was on as I'm usually upto my elbows in my daughters hair/uniform or school preperations at that time but I've just alarmed it on Digiguide so I can watch it. Of course, now I've seen that it's followed by "Fifth Element" I'm going to have to watch that as well :rotfl: I see a night of ironing and Bruce Willis :drool:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

This wouldn't be very old style though, so I think you would have to transport me back to Enid Blyton's era. I would be part of the Famous Five, drink home made ginerbeer and eat home made cake. I would solve 'mysteries', catch smugglers and be an alround wholesome girl who used the phrases 'Oh, Father, you are such a brick!', and 'wizard'.
Yes, that's where I would go.
OOOOHHHH I want to do this as well. If you are going to grab all the best lines can I be the one who swaggers about in me school blazer being frightfully forceful with adults my social inferior.
I'm sure with all our mystery solving and gingerbeer and cake guzzling we would be far too busy to ponder why we never actually saw our own parents! Them having packed us off to boarding school as soon as we were out of nappies and dump us on relatives during all the jolly school hols!
Oh no we'd have far too much on our minds to also consider why Aunt always finds sick relatives to visit and Uncle Quentin takes to his study for 6 weeks at a time during our stay. Wouldn't we eh r.mac:DLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
I'd rather be part of the Secret Seven
Can anyone remember all their names?
I remember Babs (Barbara), Peter, Pam, Colin and Janet ... and what was the dog called?
Those were the days :rotfl:
Edit: ... and no cheating by using Google(I've just looked up the rest so I know what they are now  )

Never read those. The Secret Seven books were my mum's when she was a wee girl so I had to take very good care of them but I did borrow/buy a lot of the Famous Five books too. By the age of 7-8 I was reading mainly pony stories though and one of my favourite authors was Christine Pullein-Thompson"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
