    Morning everyone,

Very foggy here at present but mild, it is supposed to burn off soon and we are due a nice, sunny day.
TA am so pleased to read that the blockage isn't anything too scary, fingers crossed for more good news soon.

Yesterday was fairly busy in the end, I dropped my OH at the local train station as he was going up to the midlands to meet his eldest, they were doing a catch up day and then off to a footie match in the evening. I did a bit of food shopping, mainly tinned stuff as haven't done any winter prepping at all. Then dropped in to see Bill for a cuddle and gave him a good brush. Quick lunch and then hospital to see Mum, she had slept most of the day and was still sleepy. Home, walked the girls and then collapsed on the sofa to watch mindless tv! Vaguely remember OH getting into bed at gone midnight.
Some movement has been made on getting Mum moved but not much,it seems such a long drawn out progress and I can see its wearing her down. We are now told it should be later in the week, fingers crossed that's the case.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning, (((((((((((hugs))))))))))) especially Lainey. Mrs TA glad the news was not what you feared.

Fine morning, we have an appointment at LRI at the blood clinic, OH is no longer on Warfarin, so they need to check his levels on the new medication.Thats the last appointment for a while, I have an appointment at the pacemaker clinic next month.

I gave in and lit the fire last night, just one small shovel after the first coal kept us going all evening.

Toad in the hole tonight, we are now eating our cabbage, I have given a couple away, also need to dig up the leeks and make them into soup for the freezer. We have sweet corn to harvest. we like to eat it straight off the plant, cooked in the microwave for 6 minutes and then slathered in butter and a touch of salt.
  • Morning all

The sun has gone out here (boo) but that means I can crack on with the ironing mountain and summer clothes sort and store, without feeling all sulky about not being outdoors lol. Going to do the Grocery Challenge from next payday so doing my sums for that.

Take care - and be kind to yourselves, yeah?

    Morning all,

DH & DS are not working today, job is held up until someone else has finished their bit so DH is putting insulation in the cellar ceiling. He's reluctant to do too much until all the road/drain repairs are done in case we get more water in down there but figures the ceiling should be ok.The electrician is coming tomorrow to see about putting lights down there too on the steps.

Its quite nice here but a tad cool,it started off like this yesterday but when i took DGS to the park late morning it was lovely and warm.He is being toilet trained at the mo so that was interesting ;)-we made 2 stops to the cafe toilets and 1 emergency wee on the grass-that was the 1st thing he told his Mum when she came back from work :rotfl:We had slow cooked gammon in apple juice for tea,it was very nice and 2 portions left.I've got salmon out for tonight although DGD doesnt like that, will sort something else out for her.I made chicken korma for her on Monday, she loved that. She's like her dad ( and me really),lots of allergies so cant use a jar for speed as tomatoes and lemon juice are out and they all have that in.

The vet diagnosed an ear infection in Ly1a last week & prescribed earwash and drops but its a bl**dy nightmare trying to administer them  She is very wary of me now every time I go near her.I wait till she's asleep and sneak up on her but can usually only get 1 ear done. She is sleeping much better though :T
I'm thinking I may have to give my school session a miss tomorrow as I'm streaming and sneezing, don't like letting them down but am not sleeping well because of it.

Warm wishes to our poorly /worried people xxx
    TA,glad that's one worry eased anyway x

It looks as if it will be a nice day so putting a load of bedding in the wash ready to hang outside. I am making a a tomato and chicken pasta for a late lunch and dd is driving me to weigh in around five tonight.

    TA

I am so glad the news is not what you feared.

The electrics have been tripping and I ended up switching off the tv, phone, internet, double oven and even the boiler. The electrician came round yesterday morning and worked out that something in the garden might have got wet and was causing a problem. We spent ages searching round for stuff the previous owner had bodged and found a close circuit tv cable which he disconnected and another plug which did not seem to do anything so sorted that out. We then found a buried cable in damp earth that had been used for a fish pond which has since been removed and did not seem to be attached to anything. He cut it , there was a flash and a bang and his pliers melted.

Thank heavens one of the family had not pierced it with a garden fork or spade!!!

On the bright side I can now safely use all the equipment and appliances in the house. I did not fancy being unable to use the boiler as the weather got darker and colder.

I am going to take stuff to the post office later and recycle some cardboard boxes.

    Hugs to all

  • TA TA I am so pleased things were not as feared but sorry you had to endure a worrying and sleepless night and travel to St James not knowing what lay ahead .
I hope all goes well with the wedding . I didn't intend to desert the daily but real life is giving us a real kicking over the last few months and I have lacked the concentration and flexible fingers to keep up with fast moving threads and remember actual posts . I am slower moving threads on and off but like Arnie I will be back:D
Just noticed I've typed your name twice ! sorry .
Love to all .I do keep you all in mind .
Special hugs to Lainey and mum , Hilstep as you make those memories and any others who would like one .

    LWolf recipe pretty please.
I had to read back to see what I'd posted about! :rotfl:
    CARROT AND ORANGE CAKE
    225g finely grated carrot
    200g soft brown sugar
    150g butter
    2 eggs
    200g SR flour
    3 tsp baking powder
    2 tsp cinnamon
    ½ tsp nutmeg
    1 tsp mixed spice
    120g raisins
    50g chopped almonds or walnuts
I omit the nuts and use 175g of either raisins or sultanas
2 tblsp Grand Marnier or orange juice I use the juice and flesh of 2 oranges

1 tblsp grated orange rind I use all the rind of 2 oranges

Oven: 180 C. Line a 22cm cake tin with greaseproof paper. Melt butter in a bowl over hot water. Beat in sugar, orange rind, carrot and eggs. Sift flour, baking powder and spices together then fold into the mixture with the raisins, Grand Marnier/orange juice and nuts. Turn mixture into tin, bake for about an hour until cake is springy to the touch and a skewer comes out clean. Cool in tin for 5 mins then turn out onto wire rack.

NB I use a microwave/convection oven, in convection mode, and set it to 170 C and cook for 1 hr and 10 mins

As mentioned yesterday, I buy a bowl of oranges when they have them cheap on the market - usually 8 oranges for £1 - and I zest and squeeze them all, using 2 oranges per cake, add the specified amount of grated carrot (market sells a big bag for £1) and freeze it in cake-sized lots, ready to just defrost and use.:o

Healing vibes on their way. I imagine you do each ear alternately then, if you can only get to do one before she objects too much?

  • Hi all so sorry I've been Awol again. Had a small case of the black dog.
HILLSTOP make the most of every day and make as many memories as you can.

Husbands email appeal was as thought not successful. So on October 4 he will get his redundancy money. However work are panicking as position not been interviewed for till October 18 and then candidates may have to work notice so as it stands today his contract has been extended to end of October. He has been given a few leads so fingers crossed.

Son decided 4 A level s was to much so is no longer doing Photography. He has attended a University open day and has found his course in Film production. Daughter seems to be doing well at school and was thrilled to be one of few asked to fill places on Art trip to London.

I have managed to almost dry 2 loads of washing , just finishing off in tumble dryer . And also peeled 5kg of onions ready to pickle.

Hugs to those who want / need them.
