Open Office Speed Up

Start Open Office and click on Tools > Options. This should open the configuration. Click on Memory in the left menu and change the following settings:
  • Number of Steps: 30
  • Use for Open Office: 128
  • Memory per Object: 20
  • Number of Objects: 20
Click on Java in the left menu afterwards and uncheck "Use a Java Runtime Environment". Click OK and restart Open Office to see how fast it is now.

Comments

  • Progress bar was faster reaching the end - then the splash screen flashes away then back - another wait and it loads. Faster but still 12 secs to load.
Will changing the memory settings have an effect on anything if you are working on a large doc etc?

Definitely much faster, thanks. If you do this in Writer, does it apply to all the other applications, or do you have to do it separately for each one?

I couldn't see any difference, what are the main things for getting it to speed up?

Hmm worth mentioning to do a reboot, then trying, or people will end up with false positives.

If you open it, makes the changes, close it, then open it again, the application will be in memory so will load quicker the second time round anyway.

Also the above changes should be treated with caution. If you're running a pc with less memory, then you may want to think twice. For those with plenty to spare it won't be a problem.
