Desperate stupid and need more help

Options
I've been in a DMP with SC now for nearly 3 years, I have recently and stupidly ( I hate myself) got us into more and more debt with PDL's and bad credit cards I am literally at the end of it all now and just don't know what to do, I have negotiated with most PDLS £20 a month etc but it's all too much and getting on top of me.
I really want and think is the right thing to do is too Peru and out the debts onto my DMP I have now, but I am scared what stepchange will do, I know I have broken my aggrement with them.

I have also thought about just stopping with SC and ringin pay plan and starting all over again anyone out there help me? Has stepchange helped you with adding more debts?

  • Hi

Just give SC a call and see what they say. I'm sure I've seen posts on here where people have added additional debt to their existing plans.

If you are taking further borrowing, perhaps your budget isn't correct and may need adjusting.

As you've already managed to negotiate with the PDLs, have you considered managing the DMP yourself?

    Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, yes I think I just need to ring SC I'm just scared I'm going to break down in tears!!!
I just don't think I can manage it all myself, I need to have 1 payment go out every month else I just get myself into a mess!!! And also there's still some very horrid PDL's out there who are just spiteful and very threatening!

SC are probably used to this and are likely to be understanding. Don't worry about bursting in to tears - I spent about 10 minutes blubbing on the phone to them before I even got to discuss my debts!

Often best to deal with PDLs in writing and that way they can't threaten. Offer them what you can afford and pay that - they will bluster and threaten but aren't likely to do anything whilst you are paying what you can afford.

Thanks for taking time to reply to me,

I do have the hope that if Stepchange sack us then I can go to Payplan for help or if we really had to a fee paying one I do feel like I do just have to start all over again!! Hopefully the last time!

Stepchange should be ok about this, similar posters to you in the past reported a positive outcome when they "fessed up".

All I would say is that you do have the option of payplan, or you could go sell managed, but do not be tempted to pay anyone for this service, you will just be throwing away more good money.

  • If StepChange got angry and judgmental with all their clients who had to extend their DMP, they wouldn't have many clients!
They will be OK with you.
Don't go with the fee paying ones, it is a waste of your money.

Have you looked at why you have spent more and got into more debt and worked out a way of not letting this happen again? Because if not, you will be knocking on StepChanges' door before too long and you really don't want to go there again, do you?

I hope you can sort it out with them.

Again thank you for your replies, feeling better than I did before and will get on the phone tomorrow to SC!!

I do u fee stand about going to a few paying company isn't the best idea I just do t know of o can handle it all myself!

Yes I know why we ended up in this mess - partly due to maternity leave I go back work next week, and just the whole stupidness of thinking I'll just get another loan and worry about it later!!! So stupid!!!!

It is not stupid, just in a pattern of thinking that isn't helpful to you.
I hope being back at work will help the financial situation.
Putting it off until later is something we all do at one time or another in many situations, often becuse we have a lot on our plate and don't feel like we can cope with anything else, but you are facing up to it now and that's the main thing. And you are also, I am sure, going to take more care in the future. We are all wise after the event!

And please stay away from the fee charging DMP managers and get all your money back into paying your debts and not making the fat cats even fatter!

Good luck tomorrow and also at work next week

I'm not in the business of making excuses for people here but the word maternity leave made me wonder if you have spoken to your health visitor or your GP about post natal depression? Don't think it always has just ONE big symptom - like any mental health issue it can be deeply complex and might explain why you feel down which then makes you seek gratification in a familiar way - for you that is uncontrolled spending on credit... Or simply burying your head in the sand at least...

If it is PND then there is help to be got and I promise you StepChange will be supportive, especially once you explain the circumstances.

Hi - I spoke to Stepchange today and they were fab, they have taken all the extra debts and put them on the plan, I was so nervous but they were great. I even offered extra to help but she refused and said she'd stick to the original amount.
Just now got to send all the creditors my ref number and hope they hold the accounts until the Nov pay.

Thanks for your replys, I'm not worried about PND as this was a issue for me 3 years ago that has risen again, thank you anyway
