NCD car insurance question

I know that if you haven't used your no claims discount (NCD) within 2 years then it will expire.

I have a few years NCD (from about 2 years ago now) which I have used on my car insurance over the last 6 months, but I'm planning to do without my car for a little while, but will I lose the NCD (as not including the past 6 months it is over 2 years) or will the 2 years start from when I leave my insurance provider? If so how do I prove the NCD as my renewal letter won't have been issued (which is how they normally ask for proof)?

Any advice?

TIA

When you cancel your policy the insurer will (should) send you an up to date proof showing your ncd. The clock will start from the date you cancel
