deck stain

I have a new deck and an old deck. I sent off for samples of anti-slip stain from Cuprinol and although I haven't really found a perfect colour yet, I know it is a job I need to address.

The old deck is at a higher level and will need to be cleaned before I stain/protect it. The new one, the lower one, is treated wood but it recommends that I use something to protect it. All in all, there is a lot of decking to be either cleaned and stained or just stained.

I have a pressure washer but I understand they are not the best on decking so was wondering how to clean the upper deck before staining it. Any ideas for good products? Can I put something into the pressure washer and use it on a less powerful setting?

I am going to need a lot of deck stain and it works out pretty expensive. Any tried and tested own brand stains that anyone can recommend. Also, should I leave the whole job till the Spring or get on with it right away?

Thanks.
