Hotpoint tumble drier recall question

First of all I know this question(s) has probably been asked a million times but I am asking for a friend.
1. She bought the tumble drier off bright house but I think it was about 3 - 4 years ago so does it have anything to do with them ? or is it the manufacturer
2. She is disabled and has very bad nerves anxiety / panic attacks and I / she have read about even ones that have the green sticker or have been modified are setting on fire. So she has not used the tumble drier in a long time. So has had to have her washing picked up to be dried when weather rubbish.
3. They said she could have a new one for £20 a think it was but what they did not say was that it was a vented one yet she has a condenser because of limited space. I think the condenser one was about 50 quid.
4. So basically what I am asking is why the hell should she have to pay for a new tumble drier when it is a danger hazard and it is their fault. What is the best way to contact them phone/email letter or a selection and also what is the things I can try for her to get the tumbler replaced. Thank you

My husband was very philosophical about this while thing. He did not want a tumble drier in the house that was liable to kill us. We were offered a replacement last year for £99 (condensing).
As it happened, we had no money when our previous drier died. We ended up with a cheap, inferior one that took ages to dry anything. It was probably a year old when I found out about the problem.
Our new tumble drier is wonderful with every bell and whistle on it and worth more than the extra £99 we paid anyway. It is more efficient and faster and arrived within days.
Your friend's tumble drier won't last forever. If she is being offered one for £50 then you could just look at it as £50 for an extra 3-4 years of happy tumble drying. That's as much as one minor repair on an older one.
And it comes with peace of mind, which can be priceless, especially an anxiety sufferer.
It may not be the most money saving option, but I think it does offer good value. It's the recall notice that clouds things. If I had a four year old drier and someone offered me a really good brand new one for £50, I think I'd take it. Recall or no recall.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I contacted them on facebook and the replaced mine free. Exact same Indesit condensing model we had (that was 8 years old) except it was white.
The one they took away was hanging together by a thread (already on its third heating element), the new one is lovely.
Very good service from Hotpoint really. Although they do keep trying to book me in for an engineer even though I have told them they already replaced it free of charge.0 -
I had the recall done in July. The fit a new back panel and an extra piece to stop any lint that isn't caught in the filter from landing on the heating elements/area.
The fitter that came to me said I wouldn't have had a problem anyway as I clean the filter after every use. He also said there was no lint/fluff anywhere that it shouldn't be.
I didn't want the replacement as I have a matching black tumble drier and washing machine and the new ones were either white or didn't look anything like the washing machine. I also haven't used mine that much and it hasn't had any faults in the 3 or 4 years I have owned it.0 -
I agree, get it replaced. I had no qualms paying £79 for my replacement vented model as mine was about 8 years old.
I have heard of people getting them replaced for free if they kick up a fuss though. I certainly sped up the process by contacting them via Facebook as I'd been in the queue for repair for a few months but then they offered the deal and I did that instead.
My advice is to contact them and explain she is disabled and needs hers replaced - and importantly if she has mobilityproblems then she would not be able to get out quickly in the case of a fire - and keep on at them. It sounds like they're already offering it at a special price (standard they were offering when I got mine was £79 vented and £99 unvented) so nag and you might get it free I reckon.0 -
The chap came and did the repair on my Hotpoint condensing drier last week.
I did consider the £99 alternatives they offered, but they were ugly so I decided to go for the repair.0
