Barclays have reported to credit agency incorrectly

Options
Hi all,
my husband has had a credit card for about 20 years, used to be Goldfish, now Barclays. He always pays the bill in full in cash in a Barclays branch. Last month's bill was about £56 due on 5th Sept. He paid it in branch on 31st Aug and got a receipt.
New statement comes showing no payment received and interest of £12 due. He emailed them explaining that he had paid. No response. Calls them this morning and they immediately admitted it was their mistake and they would refund the charges and interest. Husband says he's worried that it was have affected his credit rating. 'Oh no, I wouldn't think so' they said, so he asked for a letter confirming that and they said they couldn't do that, he asks who can do that and they go away to check. They come back saying actually this has been reported but they'll get the case reviewed and the rating board will inform him of their decision in 7 days!! He says 'you're kidding right?' 'no, I'm sorry, looks like it just went through, oh and your card has been blocked as well which can't be lifted for 24 hours'.
Surely this can't be right??
Any suggestions what to do? Even if he had missed the payment (£5 minimum payment on a £56 bill) surely that shouldn't affect your credit rating, and obviously, in this case he didn't actually miss it!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Well, if he had missed it, obviously lenders would view it negatively. They like customers to meet their payments.

But it seems you'll just need to push through the removal of it. If no joy, raise a dispute with the CRA, but I wouldn't think it would be needed.
  • Good news, credit rating are meaningless. No one else can see them.

Agreed ZX81, but I meant, one missed payment of £5 in 20 years shouldn't have such a serious impact, interest and penalty payment fine, but affecting your credit rating feels a bit excessive!
Tadleybaggie, surely it must matter, why else would they bother to report it?
  • You don't have a credit rating. You have a credit file. Lenders then view that information.

So one missed payment isn't the end of the world and it doesn't have a uniform interpretation.

Any credit score you see if the equivalent of snake oil.

It's just a scheme designed to make money from you.
