    Thank you everyone. I'll get a solicitor to do a voluntary first registration. I appreciate what @SevenOfNine said but even if there's a very low risk of a problem, the potential huge costs of a problem against the very small potential savings have ruled out DIY.

    Oh and to @Keep pedalling yes we're looking at POAs too.

    Fair enough :) Do you mind me asking how much the solicitor has quoted for their part of the work?
    Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
