In praise of United Utilities

My metered water bills were going up and up, I assumed it was the per unit/per day charges. But I checked my half yearly consumption over the last 4/5 years and it had gone up by 2.5! It should actually have gone down for a separate reason.
UU have a facility for a call back - if only every company did! They called me, quite a long discussion but they 'knew' what the problem was, it almost always was. The toilet and the overflow. I knew about the drip, someone had pointed it out a fair time ago but, as it was only a drip, I didn't bother.
Got the plumber in, he replaced the washer (such a costly little item!) and the drip has stopped. He told me that the more modern toilets overflow/drain into the pan itself, rather than through to pipe to outside. So very much harder to spot.
Moral - if your bills are going up, keep comparing your usage with recent bills.
