Twitter comp winners with high followers

Hiya,

I have entered tons of twitter comps, with an account i use solely for comping so that i don't spam friends and family. Obviously this account has very few followers - does this mean that i am really unlikely to win anything via this account? All the winners i've seen 'mysteriously' have thousands of followers and i don't feel like it is ever picked at random.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

L

We'll never know, I suppose. Some say bloggers are more likely to win, others say those with lots of followers... I win on twitter now and again. I have just over 400 followers. Only one friend - so you'll find people will just follow you randomly anyway, mainly cos of comps - compers and companies offering comps.

    Check your settings too.

Good advice to check settings, I was contacted by a very kind MSE comper who pointed out that my account was set to private so firms running comes couldn't see me tweets unless they happened to follow me! I had won quite a few things, then it stopped, I had fiddled with the settings trying to resolve another problem and accidentally changed it to private.

Dave Lackie gave a prize to someone from Scotland today and she only has 70 followers. Not a blogger either.

I think the average comping twitter account (unless it has followers in the thousands) would be viewed by twitter as a spammer account. I've been thinking about this just today and pretty much decided to abandon Twitter comps and any Twitter aspect of multi-entry comps. I think there are better and more effective ways of using my comping time.
  • I maybe wrong, but I think the more twitter followers you have the higher up the thread of replies your response will be.

For an example I follow the lady who writes the ET speaks from home blog and she always without fail appears at the top of the replies on competitions we have both entered due to her amount of followers.

Whilst it should be selected at random, I guess its easier to notice the responses nearer the top of the reply chain.

I rarely win on Twitter unless it's a comp requiring a personalised answer I find.
