Good Afternoon ,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a query about the company cabot financial. I recently requested my credit report with clear score and noticed an outstanding debt that wasn't mine with studio ( i actually had a studio account years ago but paid it off), it gave me the address of the person and they had used my name/details to obtain the account. I used a clear score link to query this however studio refused to accept that i lived at another address for the time in question , i even gave them my council tax bills , my drivers license details, bills and various emails of orders to my actual address but they where still not satisfied. So i was advised to simply put a note on my credit file to explain this debt.
I am now receiving letters from cabot requesting this money , first to my old address then to where i have recently moved too , i was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to what i should do about this as the debt isn't mine to pay ?. And also how they where able to obtain my address information if they insisted i lived at another address. Hope that all makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi midnight_ninja
I would suggest that to begin with, you simply send Cabot a copy of our "Prove it" template letter:
https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/sampleletters/Pages/Complaining-to-debt-collection-agencies-that-you-do-not-owe-the-debt-%28sole-name%29.aspx
Studio ought to have supplied you with a copy of the alleged credit agreement in question. Assuming they haven't, you can still request this from Cabot who have now taken over all rights and responsibilities relating to the account.
This all serves to underline why it is so important not to leave any loose ends when you move out of a property, as we often see examples of opportunist identity theft happening when a person's mail continues to arrive at an address they have vacated.

thank you for this , i actually never lived at the address that the account was opened from and i'm not sure why they would have opened an account at that address for me when i previously had an account at my own address years before , it all seems a bit strange. However i will challenge to see the credit agreement and see what happens.0
