MSE News: Scottish Power set to unveil tariff offering dual fuel by the day

On my last two calls to them someone answered within 2 seconds of me pressing the button to do so.
The total call lengths were under two and under three minutes, and both queries were fully answered.
Your extremely lucky, Redux, my last three calls - two were met with 'We're too busy to answer the phone, please refer to ScottishPower.co.uk for more information', which makes you think if they we're deliberately trying to reduce there OFGEM Reportable abandoned call rate, although not sure if this message counts.
I'm glad that the service you received was good, and hope this is indicative of there future level of service.
Overall, though, I think this tariff is too complex for me. Buying Energy on a daily (seasonal adjusted?) EAC/AQ basis isn't for me. Also, the question is how reliable are AQ's, particularly since they are only reviewed fairly inaccurately, and IGT's in particular can see large 'guess-timates' being used, for instance looking at the AQ's of near by properties, when they don't have enough information for an individual property. Sometimes, you'll find a whole street has an annual quantity of say, 11,000KwH.Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!0 -
cowboys but better than npower!
n.b. I have just used the customer service number - waiting 20 minutes to get through. Helpful staff. but my previous experiences with them were they promised a cashback deal (this was about 5 years ago) and then didn't pay out until I had to chase and chase for it.
maybe they are better these days?
do you like hold music!?0 -
I signed up to Scottish Power last week but I haven't received anything through the mail yet - is this normal?0

for me I'd use this if it were the cheapest deal but having just seen the unit rates after having done an online qoute I think thats unlikely
my electric unit rate : 17.761 pence per KWh (no standing charge)
my gas unit rate : 4.711 pence per KWh (no standing charge)
those figures look uncompetitive to me unless you are a very low user so the lack of standing charge has a significant effect
As a comparison Ebico which also have no standing charge have an electric unit rate of 16.622p for me - also npower are similiar at 16.632p - scottish powers gas rate is cheaper than ebicos rate of 5.198p by only by a small margin
I'd expect this gimmicky powerup thing to at least be cheaper than other no standing charge offerings - was hoping they might have had some sort of really low 'loss leader' rates right at the start to increase take up but thats definately not the case
the only people I can see this being the cheapest deal for are low users using mainly gas & not much eletric i.e. so its a cheaper deal than ebico for them0 -

Thanks for doing this research. When I heard it had no standing charges it was interesting but since I'm already with Ebico I don't think there is any incentive to change, especially as meter readings are required every 28 days with this tariff.0 -
I've just noticed this new 'thing' on the Scottish Power website and clicked through to have a look and get a quote based on what they say I use.
Apparently if I had this new PowerUp scheme I would save a couple of hundred over a year and my direct debits would be about £44 per month instead of £67 per month without.
Funny that because at the moment I enter my meter readings once a month, I have very accurate bills and my monthly direct debit is £38 per month!!!!
I think I will stick with what I've got, thank you.0 -
My current DD which SP is happy with is around £121 a month
My personalised powerup quote on a 6 month package would be £117.98, but it tells me my average monthly cost is going to be £174.
I've paid 10 months of between £100 and £120, my average won't be £174 a month even with winter.
I can't trust what the figures say to be able to confidently sign up to it, it certainly doesn't simplify my usage.0 -
Noticed the PowerUp quote function, so gave it a go.
For comparison purposes, I used the same consumption with MoneySupermarket.com
Based on:
Gas 26,000kWh
Electricity 8,000kWh
Using MoneySupermarket.com

At least PowerUp is cheaper than standard tariff.
It's an interesting way to shoot yourself in the foot just because you don't want to pay standing charge.0 -
Dealing with parents powerup account - had smart meters installed and now the app is unable to retrieve any costs or bills. One message says the 6 month package of gas will run out a month early yet web account says still have enough credit? Tried ringing through and told waiting time will be an hour to be answered !

Need to stick with one of the big 6 to keep my warm home discount, I have signed up for powerup
Norwrb region
Elec prices are as follows
Daily rate: 17.149
30 day: 16.221
90 day 15.295
180 day: 14.678
Gas Prices:
Daily: 3.806
30 day: 3.598
90 day: 3.389
180 day: 3.251
Just done a three month on each of them. Much cheaper than my June 2018 V2 tariff which was
elec: 15.911p and 8.22 sc
gas: 3.504 and 8.22 sc
I can use the next 3 months to put some aside, so I can purchase the 180 package
The only downfall I have found, it does not recognise my Barclays Visa Debit Card, upon entering, it defaults the expiry to 12/99
Had to use my credit card to get it working, which I did not want to really use0
