Car Dealerships extras - advice needed urgently!

Hi

I'm about to buy a 2014 Fiat Panda Lounge from a dealership for £5999. I've already decided to pay via personal loan from a bank as it's only 3.3%APR compared to the dealerships own finance package of 12.9% APR.

However, the dealership has come back to me with a long list of extras I can buy. I wanted some advice on what people think I should go for, if any. This will help me decide on how much of a loan I should take out with: £6k or 7k (though I may need £7k in order to get the 3.3% rate anyway).

I've decided to get the GAP insurance seperately as have read that a better deal can be found elsewhere but I'm unsure about the warrantly, tyres and alloys or supa guard. Also - is that petrol a good offer???

The list is as follows:

Warranty & Recovery
• 12m Warranty with UK Assist £299.00
• 24m Warranty with UK Assist £499.00
• 36m Warranty with UK Assist £699.00
• 48m Warranty with UK Assist £899.00
Tyre & Alloy
• 36m Tyre & Alloy Insurance (18-20 £299.00
• 36m Tyre & Alloy Insurance (Up to 17 £249.00
• Paint Protection (Cloth) Supagard £149.00
• Supagard with Cabriolet Roof £179.00
• Supagard with Leathergard £169.00
• Supagard with Roof and Leathergard £199.00
GAP
• Combined GAP - 36m RTI £259.00
• Combined GAP - 36m RTI with Negative Equity £329.00
• Combined GAP - 48m RTI £299.00
Additional Costs
• 20 litres of Petrol £21.84
• Card Charges Credit Card – 1.5% Debit card 0.2%
• Cash Charges 0.5%
• Retention Fee £80.00
• Supagard Take Home Pack £59.95

Surely if its a 2014 it'll still be under 3 years manufacturer warranty?

Personally I wouldn't bother with the tyre insurance or supagard
  • Good point! Though it's only a 3 yr warranty with the manufacturer therefore it will run out mid (???) next year so I could (if such an option exists) get it to kick in when manufacturer;s warranty ends....

What are the T&Cs for the extended warranty?
  • That I don't yet know. What would be the key thing to look out for - this is my first time buying hence the request for help!

And, having just had another look at the website I'm now panicking that it says there is no service book but that it has a service history - how would this be evidenced??? The panda Lounge 1.2 needs to be serviced every 12000 miles so this should have had 2 services as it's mileage is 24277. Think I've got more questions to ask of them!

    This is from their website:
Some key information about our car.
    Fuel Type Petrol
    Colour Infatuation Purple
    Mileage 24277
    Annual Road Tax £30.00
    Warranty At Manufact's Discretion
    MOT Expiry Date N/A
    No of keys 2
    Body Style Hatchback 5dr
    Trim Cloth
    Registration Date 30/06/2014
    No of Owners 1
    Service History Yes
    Service Book No
    Preparation Level Level 2C

Some newer cars dont come with service books anymore, its all held on a central computer which you can get information from your dealership...

I wouldn't get any of those options personally.

I would be asking what preparation level 2C is though. Not heard of that before and surely 1A would be the best? Why is your car 2C?
  • Haha. It's just their terminology for how much work they've had to do on it. The website states it is as follows:

This preparation level is for cars where no service is due or imminent
    Detailed multi-point mechanical inspection
    Lights & levels check
    Cosmetic inspection
    Operating features check
Secondary Mechanical workshop inspection including under body inspection
    Road test
    Cosmetic rectification
    Valet
    Final Quality Check

Ah it's from The Car People.

They once told me a car had full service history when it didn't.
  • Really? That's shocking!

Well, they've just emailed me to say the car's sold after all that - said they'd texted and left me a voicemail this AM informing me as such but they didn't - they only left courtesy messages stating that if I had any further questions about the vehicle then I could contact them.

!!!!!!. Back to the drawing board.

Thanks everyone for your help. At least I have more of an idea about what to look/ask for now!

avoid all these extras they are just commission earners for the salesman. Not sure you will benefit from GAP either.

you will find plenty of nearly new at this price.
