Pond pump in winter

Should i leave the pond pump running through out the winter months or switch it off???/

Can you move the intake to a shallow part of the pond so it doesn't cool down the deeper water where the fish will be over winter (assuming the pump doesn't return the water to the deepest part of the pond)?
