Any idea why my phone always thinks the SIM card has been removed

My HTC phone is away being fixed at the moment, and I am having to use my old handset in the meantime.
It is a Samsung Galaxy S4, and I am now remembering why I was so desperate to get rid of it at last upgrade time!
At least 10 times a day (not a word of exaggeration), it tells me that the SIM card has been removed and the phone won't work until it is restarted.
Any ideas what is causing this, and how I can stop it from happening, please?

Probably a lose connection between the phone and SIM. Or maybe grime on the contacts.
You could try getting some isopropyl alcohol and using cotton-buds to clean the contacts.
Or see if there's anything holding the SIM in that has bent out of place and can be bent back.
I suppose it could also be some kind of software issue that might be fixed by doing a factory reset...?0 -
Poorly SIM, poorly phone.
If the SIM works fine in the other phone, likely a dirty or imperfect connection.0 -
As above, cleaning the sim card (the gold surface) will most likely fix this issue0
