Search related to mobile contract

What information can lenders see about searches, and specifically can they see that a search relates to a mobile contract application? If they can, would this impact less on a future credit application than a credit card search would?

I think lenders can see what you see minus the score or course. The name of the company who carried out the search is shown.

As far as I know, they can see who has searched, but cannot see who your open/closed accounts are held with, only their start/end date and balance/payment history. From that they can have a good guess as to whether your recent applications were accepted or not, and what they might be for. If you had a search by EE for example, they wouldn't know for certain whether the new account was for a mobile contract or a broadband service.

Lenders will have their own criteria, but I would say that a mobile account will impact less than a new credit card, for the simple fact that a credit card means that you will generally owe more to that company than you would owe to the mobile provider.
  • I'm slightly surprised by these two replies saying that lenders can see who carried out the searches. According to the Experian website lenders don't see the names of your creditors, though I can't find anything there about searches.
