Car insurance question.

The family went on holiday earlier this year and a few weeks or so before going, my Daughter's car insurance was due for renewal.
On the day after our return she was moving house.
The (new) car insurance company had emailed her the premium before going and she'd paid the initial deposit.
They also emailed her repeatedly asking for her proof of 3 years no claims entitlement, which she genuinely has.
The upshot is (whatever her excuse) that she didn't send the insurance company her proof of no claims within a specified time and they cancelled the insurance.
Of course, after this she then got back in touch with them and sent them the proof.
They returned about half of her initial deposit even though she'd had less than one month's cover and told her she'd have to start a new policy and she agreed as she was fed up of all the grief she'd admittedly brought upon herself.
They told her to go through a comparison site and get it through there. One question asked whether she'd ever had insurance cancelled or refused so of course she answered yes.
The shyshter insurance company have now taken twice the initial deposit from her and her monthly installments have also doubled. The annual premium is now over what she was paying in her first year driving.
Ok, she shouldn't have messed up but am I right in thinking that each time she renews she's going to be hit with a loaded premium? Is there a certain amount of years this can be expected. Will she have to disclose this forever?
I think the insurance company have been grossly unfair especially as they were given (eventually I know) the proof of no claims, to rip her off in such a blatantly money grabbing way.
Could the Ombudsman do anything? Should I email the insurance co CEO or whatever his/her title is?
Vainly hoping someone might have experienced something like this and can offer advice. Thanks all.
