Apologies in advance if this has already come up, but I have been away for a couple of weeks and just wanted to know without trawling through all of the posts whether Ebico have cut their prices yet. Everyone has been saying it would be September!

No statement Melbury, unlikely as Ebico have pegged prices to the Big Boys. I've had recent admin. dealings with Southern Electric, very good, refund on the dot, offered to re-assess D.D's. In good hands there.
Atlantic (another Southern Electric I think) are showing slightly cheaper for me.

Oh what a shame, I was sure something would happen in early September, really hoping for a bit of a price cut before the winter. Thanks for the information though.

They made a statement in late August that they were pegging their price changes in amount and timing to those made by Southern.

As Southern reduced its prices last in May I dont see any change in Ebico's soon. As Ken 68 says that sadly makes Southern and Atlantic ( and the dreaded BG Click tariff ) cheaper for me too.

But if Southern have already reduced their prices, why aren't Ebico matching them now? Does this mean that Southern are more competitive than Ebico at the moment?

I would hate to leave Ebico because I like the way they operate, but if they are not going to cut prices at all it would be stupid to stay with them, I guess!

You have to look at the timing.
    Southern reduced in May.
Ebico said they would peg their price changes FROM August AFTER the May changes.

My interpretation of this is that they aren't going to drop until the NEXT time southern drop.
I could be wrong but that seems to be how others are interpreting it too.

Yes it does mean that others are more competitive, so now you have to decide if the way they operate is worth the premium.

Just checked on USwitch and surprisingly Ebico are still cheapest for me, I did only use 1842kwh of electricity and 8489kWh of gas.

I put it down to global warming and my Electrisave :rotfl:

No summer newsletter from Ebico, maybe more to this than meets the eye.

WOW, Pen, thems good figures, I aint far behind.
Curious how Eb are cheaper than their supplier, you would expect the opposite. Marketing gone mad.

I guess if you use a switching site and progressively increase your consumption values you will find the tipping point where Ebico becomes uncompetitive.
    Might give it a go.

A quick check suggests that at an annual consumption of 2000kWh elec, and 10,000kWh gas Ebico is about breakeven, a £7.84 saving predicted by Uswitch by switching to BG Click energy dual something.
Moving to 2500kWh elec, and 15000kWh gas BG is then £46 cheaper.

  • However if iu have a combi boiler you may find that Ebico are far cheaper for gas for 6 months of the year as they don't charge a standing charge or a higher standing rate.
I used about 500Kwh of gas in 3 months and around 1500kwh in 6 months so Ebico would be far less in those months than anyone else, but I can use around 13000kwh over the course of the full year.
    Nothing to see here

Interesting figures, Pen. Even with the low prices by Southern Electric/Ebico, can't see they have gained. It needed a massive advertising campaign to ratchet up the customer numbers.
Savings are possible for me now , in this area, with seperate suppliers...£25 in total but it means dealing with BG Click, where there is the most gain.
Plus the switching commission of £30. Tempting.
