Faulty fishtank

I bought a fish tank from pets at home three weeks ago.
I have only just got round to opening it all up through one reason and another.
Upon opening it up I tested bits and bobs and found that the LED light canopy is faulty.
On their returns policy it say within in a reasonable amount of time.
The tank and hood have only been unpacked from the box, no water has been inside the tank etc.
Where do I stand as far as receiving a full refund.
Thanks for any advice.

Why don't you just pop back to the store with the tank and ask them? It will be quite obvious that it's never been used and they'll most likely replace it. Why do you want a refund rather than a replacement?
If you approach the shop manager in a calm, friendly way I'd be very surprised if they are difficult about it.0 -

If they do not conform to contract, then you can reject them and are entitled to a full refund.
Perhaps it's time for you to read MSE's Consumer Rights guide.0 -
Thanks both. I'm going to ring them tomorrow anyway but just wanted to know.
The reason for the refund is I'm not happy with the build quality of the faulty lighting hood0 -

'a reasonable time' was replaced by '30 days' by The Consumer Rights Act which came into effect on 1st October 2015.0
