You will have implemented the absurd, pointless EU "This site uses cookies" notice on your website.

May I suggest we all lobby the UK Information Commissioner's Office suggesting they abolish the UK implementation of this bit of EU nonsense the day we leave the EU?

This is the UK version of the cookie rule and this is the ico's contact form.

EDIT: Sending a message to the Information Commissioner's Office is easy: just type your words into the box. You don't even have to give an email address.

The law only applies if you're running a business website and for most businesses implied consent is acceptable; assuming you inform visitors of the fact.

I wonder how many businesses will be keen to spend money removing the "EU Cookies" feature, having previously spent money implementing it?

If they applied it the same way I did to the business sites I admin it's as simple as removing one line of script that is used to start off the process of calling it up...

I wasn't aware that it was business websites only and added the pointless notice to all of my sites. It was easy to install and would be even easier to remove. There is an extension named "I don't care about cookies" for the main browsers which will block the most common implementation.

This thread prompted me to do something I'd intended to do but not got around to.
My cookie notices now end with "I hope to be able to remove this pointless and annoying message once the UK has left the EU."

I thought it applied to all websites too. I can't see anything on the ICO website saying it's business websites only. That would imply a need to define what constitutes a business which could be tricky.

Nice to meet a like-minded soul. I've also got similar words pointing out the absurdity of the rule and the hope it will go when we leave the EU.

It tells you as much in the URL... "https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-pecr/cookies-and-similar-technologies/" ...but admittedly it should be outlined much clearer.

I remember reading the original article on the ICO site when trying to figure out just what I needed to do and it was much clearer on the main page.

That's bit "IF" we leave the EU. Things are not looking good for Britain to leave it any time soon.

As for the cookies policy - it's good sense to leave it as is. Makes people remember that their online habits are being tracked. Something many people forget when surfing business websites - which is what that was for.

Many sites need session cookies to work at all.
All advertising networks use tracking cookies.

Without advertising the free web, with a few exceptions, would be limited to sites selling stuff, god botherers, and amateur hobby sites. A search engines entire business model depends on advertising and tracking. Good luck finding your way around the web without a search engine. Mind you with what would be left of it after killing off all those sites which need the advertising revenue could probably be recorded on a couple of sheets of A4.
