how to increase income when working somewhat unskilled jobs?

  • Most people start off in unskilled/ low paid positions. The ones who rise from that position do one or more of the following -

    - they're good at what they do, so they get given increasingly challenging (and therefore more interesting) things to do, leading eventually to the opportunity to earn more money
    - they look at the promotion opportunities in their industry, then do whatever needs to be done to get that promotion
    - they look around for similar jobs in other industries that may pay more, or have better prospects for training and/or promotion.
    - they realise that they're in a dead end, and retrain to do something completely different.

Which of those would work best for you is for you to decide.

Do you work 9 to 5 M to F? If so, you might find it easier to get a Saturday job sale. As you build experience and can talk about your experience of sale, you might be able to trade your main job for a sale one?

i work 8 to 4, monday to friday. i was thinking about this yes. i would consider myself a very good worker and do my job well with good eye for detail, but the opportunity to progress within my job highly improbable.

it would have to take for one of the hierarchy to leave or pass away to even be able to at least put my name forward for a better position.
  • Have a think about what area you want to work in. Unless you have a passion for it, its going to be hard to find the energy and enthusiasm to pursue it.
I believe there is no reason to be stuck in a low paid job forever. I have seen first hand someone retrain and go from a minimum wage packing job to a 60k salary. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifices but it can be done.

i have a passion for fitness. i was looking into starting a business in either sports clothing or healthy meals. i was thinking about starting a fast food shop which sells healthy food only, but then that will require a lot of money.

the sports clothing idea could be done with a lot less money, and the financial risk would be lower. i do have some talent for drawing, so was looking at creating some sports clothing designs. i do need a bit of guidance in business, because i have never done it before.

There seems to be some demand for personal training/trainers. Would it be something you'd like to do?

It took you over 3 months to respond to a post on here!!!

Have you achieved anything in the last 3 months like? Or is this just an endless loop whereby you'll be asking the same things in a further 3 months?

There really doesn't seem to be enough money in personal training these days. i know a personal trainer for a gym and he says the salary is poor, and there is just not enough people willing to pay for a personal trainer, and those that are willing to pay, he's competing with other trainers for their custom. the market is saturated with every tom, !!!! and harry.

well i would hope not. i am saving money at the moment, but figuring out my next step and how to go about it. right now i would like a job that pays more, so i can save more, but i'm stuck in a cycle at the moment of dead end work and limited skills, so looking for the best possible route to find a better paying job.
