how to increase income when working somewhat unskilled jobs?

i have been thinking about a new job recently. my current job is just above minimum wage, but i find myself getting shorter and shorter on disposable income each passing month.

maybe i do spend a bit more of stuff i needn't and this is something i am looking at cutting back. however, i don't drink, smoke or any of that jazz so i am also subconsciously saving a decent amount every month not partaking in those activities.

i would like to start earning a better wage, but not sure how to go about it. i am relatively underqualified for many well paid jobs, but i am willing to go on courses to gain qualifications. in fact i just started an online course on microsoft excel for beginners. it was free so i thought why not. apart from that i haven't taken other courses.

any advice on increasing wage/salary?

  • Up your hours. I would never have believed that nearly 50 hours at £7 could look so good but it did.

Apply for roles that are not 9-5 ie. shift work and or weekend working is required.

Other than that I don't know.

This is a question you have asked several times previously yet little seems to have changed.

    What qualifications have you considered?

You need to find a skill that is in relatively short supply, but which can be picked up with relatively low cost training. If you are looking at office work, any IT skills are worth having. Review the job adverts in your area for a specific common skill that they asking for to see what is in demand.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

  • If you do support work some have sleep ins so you do your contracted hours then get paid to sleep in in case you are needed for emergencies but that can top wages up a bit

i honestly don't know. the qualifications i have considered are things like sales and marketing certificates because i am not bad at sales and communication face to face, but these areas don't particularly need certificates/qualifications.

i am really not sure about job specific qualifications because i don't know what would be beneficial and what wouldn't. at the moment i am just looking to get a better paying job and it doesn't matter so much in what area.

I think you're doing the right thing learning Excel as it is used in so many jobs now, including sales.

Management is something you can get into more through skills displayed rather than qualifications, I believe

And agency care work perhaps, get good pay from when they're desperately short staffed

But are those courses acknowledged or taken seriously by employers? I really dont know the view on these courses. I tend to view them as personal achievements.
