This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning! I am up early as DS1 has an extra shift at the new hotel job. We were at a neighbours for dinner last night (including DS2) as DS1 was working and DD is on DOfE expedition (finally). Luckily I was driving, so no headache yay!
Spa day was lovely - had a facial and a manicure. A couple of women told us off for sitting on the loungers (there were only 4) as they wanted a turn. Think they were just spoiling for an argument as heard them getting a refund from reception later in the day - chillax girls, you're on a spa day.....
Today we will go to church parade service - I will be setting up a fundraising stall. Then DH is off to deliver nephews birthday present and then to collect DD and friends. I will be washing like a demon as the uniforms need doing.
Have a good Sunday everyone

Good morning everyone :hello:
Hi Coxy, thanks for starting the thread.
I have been up for quite a while as I have a cold starting and I couldn't use my CPAP machine as my nose is blocked. I managed to be quite productive though and have done an online shop for Sainsbugs as they kindly sent me some vouchers. Their website has improved a lot and it was very straightforward to use so I may carry on with them for a change.
We have our grand daughter staying at the moment. She is still asleep so goodness knows what time she went to sleep last night. Her little brother has been very naughty peeling off the wallpaper in his bedroom so he was not allowed to stay yesterday. I hope he will remember not to do it again. I was fortunate in that only DD13 ever scribbled on the walls when she was a toddler and after being told off she didn't do it again. We were watching some old tapes last night of the girls when they were small. I can't believe the time has flown so quickly. One minute they are making up little plays with each other and performing them and suddenly they are great hulking teenagers stropping off because they have to do some chores.
Hubby is cooking tonight, I taught him how to make a chicken and leek pie yesterday and it turned out really well. We are having stew tonight, just the thing for me as I love vegetables. I'll pass on the bread and dumplings as I really want a weight loss this week.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Coxy.
Lainey make the most of the time you do have.
My L&M was pipped at the post yesterday but if it's meant to be it will happen.
DD and I had a great day, though I kept falling asleep when I was supposed to be meditating.
I slept well last night for the first time in ages but I now need to get up and get on with everything I didn't do yesterday.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks and thanks COXY for the thread. Another lovely day forecast so summer hasn't left us yet! Yesterday afternoon we took the chairs out in the back garden but, sadly, now the sun is lower in the sky it couldn't get through to us 'cos of the trees, conifers, etc that our thoughtless neighbour has left to grow sky high! I feel like going round at the dead of night with copious amounts of a powerful weedkiller!
My little shopping trip in town didn't go as planned. I had just got off the bus when I bumped into my very oldest friend - we met 63 years when we started junior school together! We meet up a few times a year to swap birthday/Christmas presents etc and exchange news. Have you time for a coffee, she says! Yes, says I! So that was that, my little shopping list forgotten! When we parted company it was time to come home to sort a late lunch out. Mr TA wondered what had happened to me as I am usually down and back up in quick smart time!
I meant to get a chicken out to defrost for today's lunch but forgot! So no idea what we will be having. Another freezer rummage on the agenda! I am getting very lax these days but am blaming it on the hot weather when it was too warm for serious cooking.
Have a good day if you can and (((HUGS))) to all in need. LAINEY, as ever, you are in my thoughts. BB, HILSTEP and LWW too. So much worry and illness on the thread these days. We never did get the phone call from the consultant last week so it looks as though we have to wait and worry until the 29th when Mr TA's appointment comes round. My best friend, who I meet up with regularly, has had some worrying news about her health and has an urgent appointment next week at the hospital. I am worrying about her too. This growing old lark isn't much fun these days.
Take care folks xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
More watery bluey-white skies outside and the track looks like it's drying out from overnight rain.
Yesterday I was so tired for no good reason, after my morning of 'doing things' I ended up slumped on the sofa. Not good, so I had an early night and watched some TV in bed instead.
I still haven't put the two nets back on, I'm enjoying the view so much. Not sure what my errant OH will say but, frankly, I don't give a fig. He's not making too much effort to get here at weekends, perhaps we're just fading away.
There's a naughty pizza in the fridge which is at its BB date, and some raspberries which also need finishing off. No washing required today and no vacuuming either. So, a quiet day ahead with a walk to keep me going.
Happy Sunday, special wishes to our special people.0 -
Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Coxy, glad you enjoyed your spa day.
Grey and overcast here, was a bit chilly in bed last night so will change it today and put a second blanket on. I do prefer sheets and blankets, with a eiderdown on top, if it gets really cold we have a lightweight quilt that gets added too, like to layer my nest
Went to see Mum yesterday afternoon and she was in good spirits but tired, there is a lot of coming and going during the night so her sleep is disturbed. Did say that we wouldn't be in today as she has friends plus my brother and his family in, am aware that need to keep my batteries charged.
So, apart from the bed and bit of cooking nothing more is planned, I did get over to see Bill yesterday and told him all my woes LWwill try and get over again today as suspect the next couple of days are going to be pretty full on.
Thinking of you Hillstep
Hugs to BB and LWW
As dear TA says there is a lot of worry and concern on the thread at the moment but I know how much I appreciate all the lovely support that is here too x
Have a good Sunday everyone, take care folks xx0 -
Morning All
Lainey - You are in my thoughts, it must be hard not to go and see your Mum every day but as you say, you need time to yourself too.
Sorry your DH was pipped yesterday HH.
Gers - Sometimes we just need time to be and if that means sitting on the sofa doing not much then so be it!
Had a lovely afternoon yesterday, nearly didn't go as I wasn't feeling too good but glad I did. We had afternoon tea in the West End, lovely fresh sandwiches and glorious cakes. The scones were a little heavy and dry and they forgot to bring the tea but the prosecco made up for it! Went for a few drinks after and got home about 8, had a coffee and went to bed to read for a while.
Woke this morning about 5.30, came down and did the ironing and then went back to bed for a bit but was too cold!
Not much washing to do but must clean the bathrooms and have a hoover round, may even flick the duster about.
No cooking for me today as I'm off to a friends for dinner. Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning (((((((((( hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Brrrrr it's cold this morning. Just had our Sunday breakers in bed. Plan is to go out and weed the front garden, me, OH is going to potter, I hope in the back. I also need a fine morning to have a go at the herbaceous border. Will be watering the weeds on the veg patch with weed killer and then putting a membrane down.
Pork for supper tonight.
I only managed 3/4 of an hour on the front, mud is caked on my clogs about 3 inches thick. My back started to tell me it did not like what I was doing, so I packed in.0 -
Morning all,
Cold but bright here this morning I have stripped the bed and got that in the wm should dry well today.
We need to have a good clear through today and hoover and polish, there are mountains of washing to go away which will make the place look neater, we did no housework at all yesterday so a good scrub needed today.
Something with mince for dinner, OH said he would cook so I suspect a chilli but it will be nice not to have to cook.
Still waiting for a delivery date for our log burner they said 7 - 10 days and its been 7 today so should be very soon we could have used it these last few evenings.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Been a while since i last posted here, but have had plenty going on.
Been on a diet wit DW for the last year, she has joined Slimming World, i have just been tagging on to her healthier eating and betwween us have lost just over 3 stone.
I have a new job, (still have the old one too) as an IT support manager in the school. Wow, what a learning curve that has been. Been doing it for 6 months now, hard work fitting all of the tasks in. but very rewarding seeing the fruits of my labour.
DW and I became grandparents earlier this month. So also fitting visiting in to see the baby.
Finally went back to the town where i went to school, met up with a friend of mine for a chat and a catch up, also spent time with his mum and dad, who were like second parents to me growing up. a 40 year friendship, don't see each other often, but never short of somethng to chat about.
that is about alll for now.
Best wishes to all!Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..
