We have just come back from a holiday in US, flew into Buffalo and took a booked taxi to Niagara (Canadian side) just had to show passports at border and got asked a few questions such as how long staying etc.

A couple of days later we walked the Rainbow Bridge from Canada to the American side to do Cave of the Mist. It cost us 50c each to enter the bridge, had to go through passport control to enter US there was nothing to pay or any forms to fill out (we had read it was $6 each) as we had been in US prior to our visit and had ESTA`s he said nothing to pay. Coming back you just enter the bridge and then go through passport control again before going back into Canada. It was very simple and cost us 50c each.

Katie, sounds like you had a good holiday :) The OP is doing it the opposite way round Can-US-Can. It is usually a much quicker process if you have already landed in the US as you had then already gone through the immigration process and got the stamp in your passport as to say.

Once you have that stamp you can go across the border usually hassle free for the 90 days your stamp is valid for, although they will still ask questions or pull you over if they want.

If the OP wants to hop over to the US side they still need to get the stamp on the first occasion on that trip, regardless of holding an ESTA which isn't required for land crossings.
