Table lamp - fuse keeps blowing

I am not sure if it's the right section where to post this so I apologise if it's not and hopefully a mod will move it to the right one.

Basically I had to replace 3 table lamps already because they just stop working. Replacing the light bulbs doesn't help. With the 3rd one I realised it was the fuse that had blown. I replaced it and it worked fine until yesterday when it blew up again I think because I replaced the light bulb and lamp still won't come on.

Table lamp is plugged into an extension with surge protection. I have a phone charger, Apple Watch charger and laptop charger as well plugged into the same extension and they have been fine. Table lamps keep doing that but I don't understand why.

Does anyone have any idea? Thank you.

  • try plugging the table lamp directly into the mains to see if it still blows the fuse. If it works OK then disconnect everything from the extension and see if it works with that - if not then the problem would appear to be to lie with the extension (check to ensure that it is wired up correctly).

If it works OK then start plugging one additional appliance at a time and see if you can work out which one may be causing the problem and again check that appliance is wired correctly.
