Plusnet retentions?

I'm looking for any tips on retention deals with Plusnet please.

I've been a broadband/landline customer for over 6 years, and have switched between products and used line rental saver but otherwise never really asked for anything (not great, I know!)

Line rental saver has now finished again so reverting to £17.99/month and I'm paying £19.99/month for unlimited fibre extra (total £37.98/month). No need for a call package.

Sky are offering the deal currently on here for the same products (sky fibre unlimited + landline) for £18.70 for 12 months then £37.40.

Does anybody have any tips on how to bargain with Plusnet to get anything similarly priced? I'm really not great at this kind of thing so input from anybody who has experience of getting a deal from them would be much appreciated!

  • I got them from £9.99 per month for their Unlimited Broadband package to £0.00 plus the Line Rental Saver which worked out at £16.99 per month.

Did you do anything in particular to get a deal with them Astraeus, or just say you were leaving and stand your ground?

They offered me unlimited fibre extra for £10/month when I rang up last week. No haggling needed. They just offered it automatically. It included evening/weekend calls and their new all-in-one hub. I'm sure you could get even better from them with a bit of effort.

Find the best deal online that you're happy with and ask them to better it or at least match it.

Just noticing that the Sky deal is offering considerably lower speeds than Plusnets Unlimited Fibre extra, however we've been noticing the traffic management with Plusnet lately so in two minds whether to try and get a better deal from a provider which won't traffic manage instead.

Hoping to contact Sky and see if they would offer Fibre Max with a similar deal to above - here's hoping.

How did you get on Beckyy?

Im in the same boat, have unlimited fibre 80MB and standard line rental now, happy with the service but its expensive now with calls on top (even with free evening and weekend calls).

I mentioned to them about the very cheap SSE Broadband offer at the moment which they wouldnt go near to matching but in fairness it does look like Customer Service and also product wont match on quality - a lot of complaints out there.

I see new customers can get slower fibre for £5 a month so may see if I can get that with line rental paid in advance. Dont think Id notice the speed drop that much.

Checking Sky and BT deals at the mo too.

I'm still humming and harring NeilB, currently checking if Sky may offer a similar deal to the one advertised on here with their Fibre Max - doesn't seem like they will so far which is a shame.

Do post how you get on if you persevere before I do.

I've been a Plusnet customer for years and so didn't realise how much over the odds I was paying.
Tried to renegotiate over the phone and got no where.
Eventually said I'd be leaving once my Line rental deal expired.
Still they didn't want to negotiate.
Maybe I talked to someone who wasn't helpful.

    Ok will do.

I was offered £15.99 for fibre (78MB) and £10.99 for the slower 38MB.

Line rental would be the same the same so I would go for the pay year upfront to save some there. He had a point that my line rental (and probably yours) has free evening and weekend calls which new customers to plusnet now have to pay £3.

Its not a great deal so said I would think about it, Im sure if I try again with someone else I may get something better, I think at least you should be able to get what new customers are offered, so I may suggest going down to the slower fibre for £5 a month and see what happens. Will try later or tomorrow.

As for BT and Sky, the set up charge of around £50 can be a pain if its not waived, so looking at cashback deals at the moment. I have sky TV so not sure if I class a a new customer or not.

    Will keep you posted

Note there's a £50 bill credit too so you'll get the first 2 months free (as you'll be £40 in credit after the router delivery charge), giving an average monthly cost of £15.36.
