As mentioned I have Vista OS and use Opera browser. I've downloaded an earlier version of Flash Player, Flash Player(fp_22.0.0.209, and am now able to view enabled FP content. However, I wonder in doing this have I left myself open to far greater risk of malware attacking my computer?

Yes, as the next version closes security holes that may or already are actively being used for attacks.

However flash is a well known security risk anyway and constantly suffers from zero day malware attacks, i.e. ones that there is no fix for yet until patched.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

Thank you. What should I then. Remove it, or make sure if I do use it, I do it under protection of Sandboxie?
    Thanks again.

  • I do have Firefox installed, but, for whatever reason its awfully slow and clunky on my computer, and I'm not all that keen on its layout, so I actually prefer Opera, notwithstanding the FP issue.
The fact its been taken over, will that mean it will become unusable?
In truth, I'm awfully tempted to go out and buy a new laptop with Windows 10, but I have this obstinacy which is making me stick with my present model until all Windows support ends next year. I've had it 7 years and have had good use out of it, and it somehow irks me that I'm faced with having to replace it because of the whims of Windows in deciding to withdraw support for their various versions when they're no longer considered worthy of support and updates, not that I seem to be getting updates on Windows Vista anymore anyway.
    Many thanks.

Post, make and model of machine.

Nifty digits may assist you in revitalising your existing machine by putting in better quality windows, if you ask me I'll give you penguin glazing which you may find challenging to open :)

Thank you very much Fightsback for the offer.

More info needed, can you post the service tag info off the sticker on the bottom ?

Oh I'm not offering anything on the windows front, ask nifty digits kindly and he may assist you. I believe he is off somewhere in darkest Peru dodging unpleasant arthropods at the moment so you may have to wait until his return.

    Penguin = Linux

Hi Fightsback, sorry but unable to read serial/model numbers at bottom of laptop.
I think I'm going to persevere with Vista, Opera and Adobe Flash for now. Hopefully, an update will appear soon that will remedy the problem.
In any event, I had intended waiting till Windows support officially ends for Vista next year before buying a new computer. However, as things stand, I'll most probably be casting a keen eye over what's available at a bargain price when the New Year sales start in a few months.
    Thank you.

Good luck with that but it might be wise to not wait too long given Sterling's performance on the international exchange markets, at current trends we could have dollar parity by then.

Have you got a forwarding address for nifty digits? Perhaps he could pick one up cheap for me in darkest Peru.
