Parking ticket for going over maximum parking time in a free car park

In June I received a parking ticket for been parked in a free car park. However the maximum time you can park is 2hrs and I went over by 20mins as it was torrential rain and I waiting for the rain to ease off from a cafe across the road.
Any as it wasn't a council car Parking fine , I did a bit of research and read advise on the list forum and other sites. He advise was not to pay it as it was a free car park . So I have done this had 2 reminders but Inhave just ignored. Anyway today I have received a letter from bw legal advising me that the fine is now £100 for the pcn plus £54 for the clients legal cost. It states I need to pay in full within 16 days from the date of this letter 14th September they will seek their clients instructions to commence legal proceedings against me in the form of a county court claim for in the county court. Can they do this ? I was told to keep ignoring the letters but this has me worried :(

Ignoring stopped being a viable option for many PPCs in England and Wales back in 2012.

You need to appraise yourself of the current situation by carefully reading the Newbies Sticky at the top of this forum and bear in mind that this is not any kind of fine.

Which also should also lay-out your remaining options for seeing them-off.

Also have a read of recent BW Legal and Debt Collector threads for some specific advice on dealing with them. Confine your reading to the last two or three months. :)

Yes they could try a court claim - but surely you searched the forum for 'BW Legal' before starting a thread? We have HUNDREDS of threads about this exact stage and how to respond and complain (to the SRA, the CSA and your MP and Theresa May), in order to try to head of BW Legal from starting an actual claim.

And dozens more where people have got a claim anyway and are defending it.

And hundreds more are on pepipoo forum:

You will find all you need to know including example complaints and a reply, already set out again and again and again on both forums. Welcome to the World of misleading BW Legal letters.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD
  • Read the stickies and do the research on your defences against this 'charge' as stated. If it appears that the 'charge' was issued outside of the requirements of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, then have a look at my most recent letter to BW Legal in this thread: Excel & BW Legal - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

It appears to have done the trick in my case, hopefully they have given up.
