How to get rid of cockroaches

We have what we think are German cockroaches in our home how do I go about getting rid of them ? I have tried crawling insect spray but that has been a waste of time and money

We've had them in our house in Cyprus - had to get a pest control company in to 'spray'
Folks say that they live/breed mainly in the drains etc, so maybe 'spray' in there???0 -
We had all the cockroaches you could want in Saudi Arabia. I can't imagine you'd have too many in this part of the world.0
