London Nov 2016

Hello,

Hubby and I are leaving the toddlers with nanny and are going to London for the weekend for hubbys birthday. Stopping from friday to sunday.

Can anyone recommend things that we absolutely NEED to do.

We are going to see a show, the national history museum and the london eye so far. Staying a little out of the city at the Marriott Hotel, West India Quay.

Any hints/tips?

Thanks in advance.

How familiar are you with London ? (i.e. do you want the usual tourist things or stuff a bit more unusual) ?

Are you aware of the 2-4-1 offers with train tickets ? (even if not travelling into London by train it may be worth getting a cheap ticekt to make use of the offers.

I usually recommend getting a Thames clipper river roamer ticket (one of the 2-4-1 offers) for an unlimited days travel on the Clipper commuter boats. The clippers would make sense for you as way of getting from your hotel (via Canary Wharf Pier) to the London Eye.

But also with the Roamer ticket I'd stay on it for a round trip to the Dome (or even beyond the Thames Barrier to Woolwich pier at certain times) for a hassle free way to see a lot of the tourist sites, both by day and by night.

I certainly did mean the Natural History Museum. We are driving there and I have booked parking via Just park which is costing us only £22 for the weekend. I have already booked tickets for the Lion King.

    Friday
Arrive at 10am and then we are heading off to the London Eye & South Bank.

    Check into hotel at 3pm

We then have dinner resevations at 6pm (Sophie's Steakhouse) before going to see the Lion King.

Will go for some drinks afterwards and head back to hotel.

    Saturday

I'm going to book a slot at Sky Garden to have a coffee before heading to the Natural History Museum. We are going to spend approx 3 hours here.

    Lunch - looking for recommendations??

Then we are going to spend the afternoon sightseeing and shopping. Any recomendations? Going to visit Harrods and possibly Covent Garden market.

Back to hotel before heading out for dinner in the evening.
Looking for a swanky restaurant for this.

I am going to look into the Clipper commuter boats today.
    Thanks.

If you're not too bothered about seeing the dinosaur bones section of the NHM then walk past it to the Cocoon:

Most people miss it and it is very very quiet mainly because you have to take a lift in the cafe up to the top to gain entrance.

Another part people miss and which is the best part of the NHM is The Attenborough Studio:
