Did the latest update yesterday and now I don't seem to be able to get rid of this damn fool Cortana thing. Given that I was perfectly happy with W10 until yesterday, I don't use Edge or any of the other MS bells and whistles if I can help it and I'd like my search box back, is there any reason why I shouldn't undo this update, if in fact that's possible somehow?

Then, right click on the Task bar - Go to 'Cortana' and hover pointer - in sub menu - tick 'Hidden'.
You don't need a search box in W10, just hit the Windows key or open the start menu and start typing.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

^ I can confirm this link works.
Last week I used the link supplied by hans2 to turn Cortana back to Search.
It was used on a clean install of the Anniversary Home edition and BTW I used the .zip download, which automates the registry hack.
It worked perfectly.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Thanks, but when I hit Cortana and notebook, what I get is nothing like in that link: I get "The notebokk is where I keep track of what you want me to remember" and I have a choice of "sign in" or "maybe later"!
Thanks, but I really don't feel confident doing that registry edit.
ETAI just held my breath, crossed all available digits and used the zipped link in has 2's post and woo hoo it worked!!!
Much happiness here no, so thank you peopleWe're all doomed0 -

So, if you're paranoia is not at the level where you want to mess with the registry, do as Wongataa says, then just hide it from the taskbar.....;)
If you are not signed in, it's not worth worrying about IMO.
Each has there own thoughts on this, so, hopefully the same old arguments won't crop up to muddy the waters.:)
Edit..............I See you were paranoid enough.....:rotfl:
