Hi all,

Noticed an advert for the BA Amex in a paper today.

Now before we begin, I see people scoff on here about Capital One and other 'lesser' cards having 30 / 40% APRs saying how its atrocious to have APRs that high etc.

The BA Amex (which I'm thinking is a prestige card maybe?) has an APR of 76%

That is obscene, coupled with the £200 a year admin fee to own the bloody thing.

I think next time people think Capital One et al are high need to remember things like this.

I mean, come on, thats not a good APR is it? What am I missing?

The interest rate for purchases is 22.9% and the APR is so high because of the high annual fee (and the assumed £1200 credit limit).

Thank you for explaining, I was beginning to wonder.
  • I hear the companion voucher is the real prize for the BA card. How many miles does it come with these days]?

The voucher is based on annual spend.
    £20k on the free card.
£10k on the fee charging card.

Interest rate (although not card fee) is a complete irrelevance for anyone who always pays off their balance each month, I have no idea what the rates on my cards are as they never apply. The only CC interest I have paid in the last (at least) 15 years is 7p when I mistakenly took out cash on a credit card rather than debit card, but transferred enough to cover the withdrawal, cash advance fee and interest within 3 days of doing it.
  • Flights taken using the companion voucher on BA Amex over the past three years:

2013: First class London to Shanghai
2014: First class to St Lucia
    2016: Business to South Africa

Each flight is worth £5k+ for both tickets - this is why i pay £195 a year for the card

    Everyone:

Thanks for explaining it to me how its works, I just read the APR, I didn't know that if you were that l33t enough to have this card that nobody EVER paid any interest on it...

Perhaps you all have a special greeting for each other in the Concorde lounge at Heathrow when you get your free flights, I'll have a look for you next time I'm going to LA...

    Kudos to you all.
