With the push from MSE and the spurt of £15 payments. I wonder what cut John Stuart took from these payments?

It seems pretty likely that the majority of the money from subscriptions went towards paying for vouchers for other people (and then latterly paying for refunds). I think at best the Bounts CEO got a fairly base level salary, certainly not a fixed percentage of the money coming it - they've had £750,000 of VC money, and VCs generally watch (and control) how senior staff are remunerated.

I don't think some of the decisions the CEO made were great; there are ways he could have handled the situation that wouldn't have burned so much goodwill amongst the members - some of their responses to members were very poor, and calling the problems of buying vouchers 'a bit of a fun game' or whatever phrase he used was completely misguided. However, ultimately it was doomed as soon as paid members were promised upto £200 in rewards presumably without realising that Bounts's predictions on where that £200 would come from wouldn't pan out.

Anyway, I think MSE have not done a great job in their latest bounts update. MSE have stated they if you've paid for a subscription then you have no way to get a refund for the current year. I am not convinced that's true; it seems changing the rules like this means what you're getting is significantly not what you signed up for, and hence the protection against unfair trading rules come into play. You signed up to get upto £200 in vouchers, and the new reality seems to be that (if you manage to complete the challenges) you'll get the value of your subscription back (maybe a bit more, it's not clear).

If bounts refuse to refund, you can approach Apple/Google directly (if you upgraded via an in-app purchase), and failing that can raise a chargeback via your credit card company.

The sad fact though is that, unfortunately, I would imagine bounts would run out of money if everyone did this.

I have just started using running heroes, but I use it in the knowledge that I am basically using it for discount codes off things that I will be buying ... which I think is the new model that bounts has gone down.
For instance I just bought some socks (which I was going to buy anyway) but got 30% off them :)
I have only been using it for 3 days too and easily got the 250 points that I needed to get the discount, so I think that I will end up with a heck of a lot of points sitting there.

  • Well, Bounts are back on Facebook with an apology:

"We're back! It hasn’t been the best week at bounts HQ since making the changes to how bounts works. We've had lots of positive responses but equally I know some of you are very annoyed with us for making this change. Taking our Facebook page down wasn’t one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Our decision to take it down for 7 days was a bad one. Lesson learned and my sincere apologies."

Running heros is great. Good challenges good discounts. Looks like what bounts is now copying.
  • So in theory, if Bounts survives this appalling headless chicken marketing shambles, that and Running Heroes combined might be worth the effort.
Shame neither seem to support Under Armour devices, as it's the nearest to the (rubbish, thanks to dying pixels) original more discreet Garmin Vivosmart in size.

Came to this forum after going to Twitter to try to send a query.......Interesting that even on the Facebook page they're not linking to the 'Trust Pilot' (2 Stars) reviews.
Interestingly, I don't think that I'm disgruntled about the fact that it's not a 'get something for nothing' scheme. Yes, obviously I love it when via these forums you get a great deal on something, but even though it took ages to save up enough points to get a voucher if you were just a regular member, at least at the start you could pick something when you got there. It's just the attitude of the founder that - for me at least - has really ruined the company.

Word of warning - despite stating last month that they are cancelling Premium memberships, they still helped themselves to another £1.49 from my account on Saturday.

I'm not hoping of getting a refund for the 7 months I gave them money, but you need to phone your bank to cancel the recurring payment. They should also be able to get you a refund if they have taken a payment this month.
  • could anyone tell me what fit fuel vouchers are please? i'v tried googling it but got nowhere
