Questions re. Credit Ratings & Joint Account

So, I have previously been in debt (not a huge amount, approx. £4-5k. I am now in the last few weeks of paying off the very last debt and really proud of myself. I understand that when you have a joint account, any debt one person incurs would impact the other person's rating. However, if I am debt free before my partner and I open an account together, will it be fine? And if not, how long should we wait until we can safely open a joint account together? It would really simplify a lot of things for us, and it's something we really want to do. We are getting married next year.
Many thanks in advance.

Debt isn't of itself a problem, if you have been paying and managing this then there's no problem with your credit file or any association.
However if you have had missed payments, defaults, ccjs etc in thelast six years then this will adversely affect your file and could do the same to anyone who is financially associated with you.0 -
Don't worry too much about the rating as banks/lenders don't even see it.
As long as the data is correct then you will be fine.0
